Well, I do like Makarov's beard  ... it was the "standard" between russian Admirals on this era... :w00t: :mdr:
But I think my wife will just kick me out of the house for that... :siffle:
Also, it is not good for the economy... I will have to waste 2x shampoo to be able to clear all that hair... :mdr: :mdr:

Beard can even hide some strange things like nails expulsed by the exploding bomb that the French anarchist Vaillant, who had managed to gain admission to the chamber, threw at the president (in 1893).
The deputy Charles Dupuy found those nails in his beard only after returning home and preparing to go to bed.

Does this mean that I will be able to play Garibaldi? You mean that I can do the "Risogimento" myself? I can unify Italy? That would be outstanding!! However, I will move the Capital of Italy to Sicily. (Just to keep the wife happy)

Because safety blades were not common during the period? Because if you wanted a close shave you went to a barber who used a straight razor, because if you tried to use a straight razor on yourself you either had an extraordinarily steady hand or a death wish? Because 2 bits for a shave was a lot of money? Because hot water was not always readily available in the field? Because even baths only took place when convenient, and that wasn't every day?

Or maybe they thought it was cool, like this guy thinks he looks cool. ;)

Most people are aware of how Fleming discovered penincillin, ie bread mold accidentally contaminating (and killing) a bacteria culture. The next part of the story is interesting as it relates to facial hair.

After publishing his results in 1928, Fleming began the slow process of producing and collecting penincillin. One day he received a call from the local hospital. They had admitted a policeman who had cut himself shaving and the wound had become infected. The hospital wondered if Fleming's new fangled medicine could help. Fleming gathered up all of his supply and rushed to the hospital. At first the penincilin was effective, but when the supply ran out, the infection flared back and the man died. However, the procedure showed that with sufficient supply on hand, penicillin could be an effective agent in fighting infection.

I have remembered this story for a long time as the bottom line is that the policeman died after cutting himself while shaving.

Moral of the history: guys, don't shave! its dangerous! :D

Since three month ago i'm growing a beard myself (well i crop it every week or ten days so it don't grows to Makarov's proportions ;) ) and i'm very happy!
The biggest advantage is that each morning i can stay in bed 10 extra minutes as i don't need to shave any more! :D
And my wife even likes it!

The brutality and inhumanity of war stood in great contrast to what I had heard and read about as a youth.
