Ship Historical Help

Thu May 14, 2009 11:20 pm

Hello,

I am looking at building some transport fleets into my custom scenario.

I prefer some actual historical stuff instead of just rubbish.

So, something like this:

GBR 1st Colony Fleet
GBR 1st Transport

Lt. J. Dewinter
Adelaïde|Perth|Balmoral|Dundee

FRA 1ère Flotte de Colonie
FRA Premier Transport

Capt. Malartic
Sagittaire|Dauphiné|Tours|Auxerre

Any sites or any help would be much appreciated.

So you want historical names of ships and navy captains for the french and english?

And the date? French and indian war years?

Yes, and Spanish too if you have them.

Thx mate!

1750-1770 range.

I am thinking of about 10 Transport Fleets each.

For the french you can use this

Dictionnaire des bâtiments de la flotte de guerre française de Colbert à nos jours

http://www.netmarine.net/dico/index.htm

Unfortunately only a few pages are available online. This two could be appropiate

Naval and Military Memoirs of Great Britain, from 1727 to 1783

There is a lot of information here and not only for the british, the volume III seems to be the right one for the dates you want

Sloops and Yachts are transports?

Thanks. Will check it out.

I think you can get men on a Sloop, but not a Regiment when transporting to America. Sloop would be more adept at landing Spies. Maybe I will have a few of these...

Google translator can help ;) :D
I have been looking on that web but haven't found any info on actual transport ships.
Lots of ships of the line, frigates and all kind of military ships, but no transports :bonk:

Every little bit helps. I can fudge the Transports if need be. Probably in some obscure book somewhere. And since all the Frigates and above get all the glory, no one has taken trouble to put online about humble Transport Captains & their ships.
