Discipline question

Hi folks, I post this question here as I think it applies to all AGEOD games.
When defending a fortification in a siege the defending units average discipline
is used as part of the surrender and breach calculation. I wonder how the average discipline is calculated? If I have a large, highly disciplined unit with say a discipline of 12 stacked with a very small unit with a discipline of 6 will the average discipline be 9 - or is the unit size taken into consideration?

Are non combat units such as merchandise and supply also used in the calculation?

The formula used is : (Best Discipline + Average Discipline)/2

So you are better have at least one elite element, showing the example... and all elements will count because of the average done also.

Thanks Philippe, I thought this post had vanished so posted it again in the WiA beta forum with a few more questions - but the formula seems to answer most. Not sure I should add a few ill disciplined traders to a fort for flavour though - and a little concerned if merchandise can have an effect.

Yes they could. The civilians handling the merchandises will demoralize the entire garrison by asking for a surrender, whereas there is only honor in death on the battlefield, as everybody knows!

I was going to amend the merchandise discipline but I can't find an attribute in the model that controls this. Is it derived from other attributes?

With merchandise discipline set at 1 the effect on besieged units would be so great that I don't think it is usable in any realistic way in the game as it is currently set.

Discipline is still named TQ (standing for Troop Quality).

Thanks Philippe. It seems that if TQ is set to 0 for merchandise it will still appear in the game as a discipline of 1 - which is why I couldn't find it.

If you only have 1 unit stacked with merchandise it will have a huge effect on the chance of a breach or surrender - I would think it should at least have a TQ of 5 or 6 (I assume it has no effect on combat so there is no problem with changing TQ for merchandise?)
