Need some advice regarding my campaign.

Fri Apr 03, 2009 9:47 am

Ok, I just got back into this game, I played it for like, 2 weeks when I got it last year and never picked it up again so I forgot everything  !

I decided to start up the Eastern Campaign as the Confederates as a crash course in getting my %^&* kicked but I ended up wanting to finish it, theres only one problem...and it's a big one.

The Union is EVERYWHERE! They are all over my eastern coast, they were killing me in Virginia and I just recently went on the offensive to try and stop the Union from stealing all the initiative, now here's where it gets tricky.

I fought the AoTP twice, once in Manassas, and another time in Alexandria and in both I surprisingly won. I got cocky and I decided to sidestep McClellan with Jackson and attack Mac and leave him nowhere to go but back to Washington and what do you know, McClellan breaks again, losing over 30,000 men in the entire campaign.

This definetly wasn't helping my brain from working because it was filled with strange and demented thoughts of invading the North, so...I did so with the entire army with Jackson keeping at least 3 Union Corps from reinforcing the East and Jackson won 2 battles against them when I was able to salvage some 1-on-1 odds against 2 different corps in the East, then I moved Jackson to take Annapolis and I had Washington cut off and the AoTP.

Needless to say, McClellan attacked me with his entire army and lost yet again to my surprise, but breaking through and escaping with everyone but Sumner's Corps which was under siege in Washington.

Here is where advice is needed if you didn't want to listen to the rest ;) .

I have had Washington under siege for a few turns now, I have tried a few assaults against it and each have failed but with little casualties on each side. I captured a siege gun, a coastal battery, and a few Gatlings in the original fighting so it's really just Sumner in there.

In the South and the East, the Union is starting a massive landgrab for all my territory and they're heading straight for Richmond it seems and the only thing keeping me from being completely cut off and attacked is "Prince John" Magruder down at Alexandria, sent there because he lost Manassas Junction to the crippled AoTP a couple turns ago.

Further South, Butler is up to no good, sieging cities and destroying depots, forcing my cavalry to chase him and clean up the messes he leaves behind and he has linked up with other large Union forces and I've come to the conclusion that the South is being cut apart into little peices, I've been getting really lucky with partisans showing up to retake the sities they leave behind so far but that won't hold them off for long.

So...what do I do? I can always attempt a breakout with the ANV and ditch the siege of Washington, but I swear I can almost feel them breaking :( . Pemberton in the South doesn't help much, he has an entire division and he can't take out a small fort garisson :neener: .

Here's the save file:

I should be using the latest patch last time I checked, 1.13?

Take Washington. That's a HUGE boost to your NM and a HUGE loss for the AI's. After you take it you should be able to mop up the rest of his forces by sheer force of greater cohesion. (i.e. yours will be much higher than his.)

In fact...I'm not sure on the math, but if you take Washington, you might be able to win the game outright.

Wow..............this is..........strange.

I.......won  ........

I decided to keep up the siege and I ended the turn and the Wasgington garisson surrendered and I won the game with 161NM compared to the 150NM I need to win, thanks for the advice, if I had given up Washington I would have lost.
