H key

Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:32 pm

Have just found out that hitting the "H" key to put a unit or stack into the structure does not seem to work if the area has been pillaged. Have just tried it in 2 different regions, both pillaged, and doesn't work in either. Can't remember an occasion when it hasn't worked before though. Is this WAD?
(Can send save if needed but thought I'd ask if it's WAD first) ;)

:sherlock: I did some testing with our pre-patch prototype:

H key moves groups into structures when:
[INDENT]region is pillaged
or
group is 'locked'[/INDENT]

H key will NOT move a group into structure if the leader is inactive

H key will not move any group OUT of a structure.

This may well be WAD:
  • Inactive leaders are severely limited in command ability
  • The literal text describing "H"says "into structure"

Need confirmation from Mr. Pocus, Sir! :gardavou:

Just checked this again with two pillaged areas, Fort William Henry and Oswego, depot in each, stack with an activated commander in each, and both areas pillaged. One stack enters with the "h" key, the other doesn't :tournepas Even tried splitting a unit off and trying that, still wouldn't work.
Not really a problem with this not always working, only time I can think that it would be is Boston at the start of AWI when you're trying to get forces organised perhaps?

OK
Can you upload the save [current turn only] for the 'one does, one doesn't' situation? :w00t:

Thanks!

Here it is, Fort William Henry stack doesn't work, Oswego one does. Unless I'm missing something also showing here is Winslow on the north east coast, not activated but the "H" key does work for him.

:sherlock: Looks like:

"H" key puts selected unit/stack "in" if region has a structure defined as a "City" [which includes City, Village, Settlement and Stockade per Pocus]

= explains behavior at Oswego, Winslow's force, etc
[note Comm mod changes first build of Ft.Oswego to Stockade. Will be rebuilt as Fort if destroyed]

"H" key does not put unit/stack "in" if region has a Fort without a city

= explains Ft. William Henry [and Ft. Niagra, Ft. Carilion in French side of your save]

This matches well with the structure definitions, as City, Village, Stockade and Settlement all contain parameter IsCity = 1, whereas Fort and Harbor do not.

Pillaged appears to have nothing to do with it.
Harbor appears to have nothing to do with it. :D

I expect that a "naked" Depot would also ignore "H", as depot does not contain "IsCity = 1"

I suggest that for now, this is only a minor inconvenience, so best left alone whilst we fry bigger fish. ;)

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
The search was stimulating. :w00t:
