Don't see any Civ4 in the design at all?

I think Sunray is refering to the trend of Paradox to add more and more special buildings and associated functions in region developement compared to EU1 design. This centralized planning aspect is not really realistic though, it should be mostly left to the attention of an underlying AI, with only minimum control from the player, unless in some very specific departments and in the Royal Domain.

Despite people often classifying Paradox games as grand strategy RPGs, they could easily be classified as grand strategy god games. The player has a level of pervasive control even in liberal societies that rivals that of many actual dictatorships.

I have HOI, HOI2, EU2, Victoria. I'm amazed at the depth and historical attention to detail in all of Paradox' games. However, each game has major annoyances:

1. Undocumented rules or features.
2. Bugs, bugs, bugs until the ninth patch.
3. Micromanagement issues that turn it into a clickfest or an accounting game. Example: resources in Victoria, convoys in HOI2, colonization in EU2.

BOA is the best wargame release that I've ever seen for easing all three of the problems for buyers and allowing you to concentrate on strategy. I cannot wait for the Civil War game or any other game this company creates.

Paradox really need to hire talented artists like AGEOD have. All Paradox games have looked dam ugly since E.U was released way back, and E.U3 looks to continue the ugly trend.

Actually EU and Victoria maps are more practical than pretty. However, Ageod's maps are both.

But a new graphics engine was badly needed. The old one was too limited in supporting higher resolutions. I really like nice drawn and clearly laid out 2D maps. But on the other hand a 3D map may offer more possibilities. Of course, if you compare the the graphics (I saw it only on screenshots) with titles like Medieval 2, the hardware requirements for the graphic card seem too high. (But is is the same for BoA. My 1 GB of RAM seem barely enough to play it smoothly. And I blame the graphic engine for this too, since the map is a huge bitmap.) But I think this shows that the developer of these games clearly focus on game design rather than a high efficient graphics engine. And in some years these engines will still be used and we will not feel them demanding anymore since then we will be almighty future people with computers capable to run Medieval 3. :D

Anyway: I ordered EU3 and will also buy ACW and if this means I need a new graphic card and more RAM so be it. I will just stop eating for some months to save money. :sourcil:

What really matters is to see if the new graphics are an improvement or not in terms of game enjoyment. If not, this is a mistake :indien:

I actually have almost no desire to purchase EUIII as I enjoy EUII just nicely.
The addition of 3D graphics is intriguing, but not enough for me to purchase the game.

I'm having a great time with this game. The new national ideas, regiment system, dynamic history make it the best empire builder on the market in my book.I hope vainglory matches the fun. :niark:

I'd like you send me a list of the key points you love on EU3...what I have seen to date was not convincing...but may be because it was an old beta version :niark:
