Unable to run AACW using Vista.
OK, so the dll problem is now solved and the game starts to load. Now my dilemma is that that a short way into the loading procedure the game locks and I get the following error message:
TFileParser.Preload File not found.

Did a complete uninstall of 1.11d and a fresh download and reinstall of your new 1.12 Pocus. Still no joy and yes I'm installing to C: as its a brand new 560 drive. If you are really saying to me that the only way to get around this problem (and then I suspect its not guaranteed) is to purchase another hard drive particularly when this one works quite well.

I assume I have a single partition Arsan. As I've said several times before in posts computers and I are as compatible as a monkey with a microwave. Once you or anyone else starts getting technical unless its explained in words of one syllabel it goes right over my head. 
Oh and I am understandably I think given my level of competence with computers quite reluctant to mess about much with the system which seems to be working very well so far just to get AACW working particularly when I'm unsure in messing about exactly what I'm doing or what I might be fouling up in another direction.

Reading some posts here from people who has Vista and the problems they have, I think that an important cause is User Account Control (UAC).
This is supposed to be a security feature that Vista has incorporated, not present in XP.
IMHO it is a very annoying bug, and the first thing to do after getting a brand new Vista system is to disable it. Follow the instructions here, of course at your own risk
But I did it in my desktop and laptop and of course I will not enable it again

I'm kind of a monkey with microwave here too... but i use to ask some tech savy friend to help me setup things when i buy a new computer. I would recommend you do the same
I would say making at least 2 or 3 partitions on a huge Hard drive like yours would be a good idea. Like one for OS and for programs, one for games and maybe another to just pile up stuff there.
That way, if something goes badly (like a virus attack or something) and you are forced to reinstall windows, you can format only the OS partition and the rest of you stuff won't be erased in the process.
You could even install XP on one of the partitions and make a double boot computer able to play those good all games vista likes to hate

And Arsan I do appreciate the advice but I'm not one of those who has 'tech savvy' friends capable of multi partitioning hard drives and in truth I think folks like myself are in the majority and that people such as you are very very lucky to have friends, colleagues and acquaintances with sufficient technical ability to call upon to help you with the necessary setups.
As it is all is/was not lost as I've loaded the game onto an old slow XP machine that the good lady had. Its slow and cumbersome but will do.

Sadly even after disabling UAC, rebooting, performing a fresh download of ACW v1.12 and then reinstalling I still get the same TFileParser.Preload not found message Its obviously needs to be accessed at least 4 or 5 times during loading as the message appears that many times prior to AACW telling me there are critical errors.
I've reluctantly decided, unless there is an easy solution, to throw the towel in with trying to get ACW to work with my Vista system.
Its not too disasterous given that I do have backup way for continuing to play the game. The real downside is that it will make me shy away from any future AGEod releases which is a shame given that the new First World War offering and the forthcoming VGN looked tasty.

I told you that I was like a monkey in charge of a microwave when it comes to 'puters. Sorry for only giving half a picture. That link you provided could well be it. Trouble is the link Pocus provided to download the Display.opt file no longer works. 
Mind you I'm not getting too excited. Bet if I do get that part installed knowing my luck I'll progress to another error.

If I would have to gues, I would say your DirectX9 is not up to date. Vista comes with DX10, which does *not* include everything DX9 has.

Nah Jarkko whatever it is its nowt to do with not having my DirectX up to date thats totally sorted. Tried to download and install both 1.12 and 1.11d onto two different computers. One with Vista, one with XP on both I'm getting the same errors. .dll missing (even on the XP machine which only goes up to DirectX 9). Once I cure that I get the Display.opt file missing. When I cure that I get graphics errors. Thats on both machines with brand new installs of both 1.12 and 1.11d.
Now as a computer illiterate I know nothing but I've managed to salvage the old drive from my previous 'puter that had 1.09e and 1.11 on it. Ive purchased an outer casing so I can use the old drive as an external. This old drive also takes unkindly to having 1.11d or 1.12 installed on it as new installations but I've discovered that if I download 1.12 and install it over 1.11 then I'm up and running and its working beautifully......

This might sound stupid now and I apologize in advance.... but you did not by any chance forgot to install the game itself before applying the patch? I can reproduce your problem 100%, but only if I install the patch only, and not the game. (The patch has a size about 110 MB, the game 470 MB.)
