Emplaced units are able to move

Thu Oct 30, 2008 9:38 am

I think that the way that this occurs is by having a stack with multiple units (one of them being the emplaced cannons unit) attacked. Regardless, somehow I've been able to move several of these units (and I've captured a couple of AI controlled Union elements that have obviously moved as well).

Really, I don't think that they should even be able to move out of the structure that their emplaced in, let alone move to a different region...

You mean naval and fort guns?
I think is WAD that they can move.
But they should move veeeeeery slowly unless you can transport them by rail/ship.
If they an move at regular arty speed we have problem.

That's true. When they become unlocked, their movement rate is extremely slow (as in, 45 days from one region to another). So, it's working as designed then. That's OK by me...
:)

It does bring up the question as to why they are locked in the first place, though. I can understand why some units should be locked (such as Lee in mid to late '61), but it seems that the unit locking mechanism may be a bit overused, currently.

That is to help the AI, so she does not do too many stupid things :)

Ah, that makes sense... Would there be a way to tie that to whether or not the side is AI controlled, though? Even if it's was a tag or command of some sort that modders could use, that would help.
Which units are locked is in the scenario definition, correct?

You would need to recreate a new scenario to remove these fixing, OR do an event triggering at turn 1, removing all fixed status to units, if the player is not an AI.

Maybe in a future update so its less confusing for new users the Emplaced Guns "Abilities" tooltip could be changed to read "These guns are emplaced batteries and can't be moved outside the region unless captured."

Otherwise it is WAD, it takes about 40 days to move a region, but only 1 day by rail.

Understood. But the tooltip is still, technically, incorrect. Just thought I'd point it out, mostly as a way to avoid confusion for new players. Not a big deal at all - I understand you and the team still have much bigger fish to fry.

BTW, thanks for your continuing efforts. I just came across your updated KY events, and this along with Pocus' addition of the "sentry for one turn" key convinced to jump back into the game for the first time in a while. I love the <spacebar> for the one turn sentry. I'd only been asking for that since the first week of release.
