Pensacola Bay Blockade Issue, 1.11a

Mon Sep 08, 2008 10:12 pm

The tooltip says I need 8 elements to blockade Pensacola Bay, but when I send 8 elements there it's not enough--says I need 4 more.

Anyone else confirm?

I believe as before was, If the enemy has some "artillery-fort" there is need to add some extra ships to blockade.

Not sure about 111 however.

Right. The blockade only goes up if there is artillery in the fort, and until you get there, you don't know that there is some. The tooltip is only based on what you can actually see.

Ah, makes sense. Once I get the right number of ships in place, can the CSA "break" the blockade by adding more artillery until I add even more ships?

The presence of the artillery in the fort is what increases the blockade requirement, not the amount of artillery. So adding more doesn't help. If there had been none when you arrived, and you had the right number of ships for that, then some artillery was put into the fort, then you would need more ships. I believe a shore battery has the same effect, if there was artillery in level two trenches when you arrived, but then they dug in deeper, you would need more ships. Again, the amount doesn't matter, so a shore battery (or multiple batteries) plus artillery in a fort is no different than just having artillery in a fort.

Many thanks, Jabberwock. Sounds like I shouldn't assume my brown-water blockades are still in effect just because they were on a previous turn. Need to recheck them.
