Promotions

A question regarding promotions of leaders...

Why does one have to move a leader into a separate force, outside an army (assuming the leader is within the army structure at the time), to promote him? And, after this is complete, why does the promotion disappear once the leader is placed back in the army structure (meaning in the same stack as a corps or the army commander) on the same turn, after the promotion order is given?

Technical limitation in the engine

Promoting a leader is part of the "special commands", and they can only be applied to stacks, and in that context, it will only work for the stack commander.

I'll agree it's a small hassle, but IMHO there are other things I prefer the dev team spend time on than address this particular nuisance :)

Yes .... as now division creation is clicked and works fine, I certainly would like this promotion click some patch will work the same way...

So, say I want to replace an existing corps commander with a former division commander under that corps.

Do I have to take the new commander out of that stack, promote him, and then wait until the next turn to see that promotion? Doing so in the face of a defensive effort would give me combat penalties.

I think so. The new guy won't be a 2-star till the next round, and when you move the current commander out of the stack, he'll bring the corps with him, so to speak.

Another leader-related question...

If I have multiple leaders in a stack that are Not formed for divisions (a few leaders under an overall corps commander, for instance, with other misc. brigades also occupying the stack), are ALL of the leader attributes taken into account in a battle? Meaning, if I have 3 leaders with an offensive rating of 1, does that mean I get a bonus of 3 in the conflict?

I just hit January 1862 in my PBEM game and am trying to figure out the best way to make use of the dozen new generals that I just received (AKurtz I hope that doesn't give anything away :innocent: )

Hi!

No, just the most senior stats count... unless the others are division commanders.
Still additional leaders can give the benefits of his special abilities to all teh stacks. But only a few work even if not commanding the stack (artillerist for example). Most only apply when the leader commands the stack or a division.
Besides, two leaders (a no more i think) adds their Commmands points to an stack. So a second leader can help reducing command penalties.

SO, basically, the only reason I would throw extra leaders into a stack would be to reduce the risk of them getting killed alone. Which is fine, since I see more leaders presently than I have a need for.

Nope; there are several abilities that leaders can have that are "stack" abailities, such as "artillerist" which gives a bonus to all artillery in the stack and "entrencher" (IIRC) that enables the stack to entrench faster

Hi!
Check this excellent abilities list done by (damn i can't remember the forum member name :bonk: Sorry :innocent: )
http://www.leqg.org/doc/aacw/listability.php5
On the Appliance column, check for the "Group" tag. That are the abilites that benefit the whole stack even if the general is not the stack commander.

About spare leaders: use them to command important garrisns or as a second in command of independent divisions stack so you can get rid of the 10% penalty.

Regards!

Good idea! I can use the many leaders WITHOUT special attributes in this fashion...and though it seems a shame to use a 3-1-1 leader simply for a 18-power militia to garrison a city with lower penalty, it is better than wasting the leader altogether I suppose.

Thanks Arsan!
