California Bde

Since I'm on a roll here with questions, I may as well continue, besides, someone else may be wondering the same thing. So, here's my next question men.
The game created an Elite infantry unit called the California Bde, which appeared in Philly...It has 3 elements of infantry and 1 skirmisher element.
I noticed above the elements window, a Brig Gen A. Black came assigned over these 4 elements. In this case, does that mean I don't have to assign a General to the California Bde?

No, you still do. Al units have a 'commander' listed in that field until you appoint them one of your generals or add them to a division. It is more flavor than anything else.

The union gets,'elite' brigades, the most famous being John Reynolds,'Iron Brigade' where Reynolds dies commanding them at Gettysburg holding the heights for the next day.
The south gets a few too, although I contend there should be more, the most famous being the Stonewall Brigade.

All these brigades are put into divisons, but you only need one elite brigade to make the division have elite charcteristics.....putting two in wont make it a double elite I dont think lol

I think whats throwing you is the sharpshooter symbol thrown in too, as normally you have to put a skirmish brigade in too.

Always wondered, not having found anything about the Cali bde in the book, where the heck this bde comes from. I've seen a Cali Bde spawning in CSA too and certainly not in Cali...so my question is: Is this unit historically placed where it should spawn or there's been a mistake here?

<snip>

Just to note: Reynolds commanded the I Corps at Gettysburg that included the Iron Brigrade. Meredith commanded the Iron Brigade [aka 'Black Hat Brigade] at GB. Rufus King was the initial commander in 1861 and Gibbon had them at 2nd Manassas where they started building their reputation.....

yes I know....but neither of them were killed at Gettysburg (dying at the feet of the Iron Brigade), I dunno just sounded more dramatic lol as I would contend the black hat Iron Brig. is easily the most famous elite northern brigade, altho probably debatable historically whether they deserve that.

I saw the very house where Reynolds died in when visiting Gettysburg, n walked the slight rise where the Iron Brigade defended against Heth, sucummbing finally only to Ewells flanking move after Howard broke ...awesome visit.
As I said tho...the wife only wanted to go shopping :non:

Funny Howard tries to make Bufford the scape-goat for Reynolds' death, but that charge doesnt stick :non:

It is probably worth noting that the California (Philadelphia) brigade was the only brigade on either side that was raised completely from a single city.

Another elite brigade they should have for the south should be the brigade under Cleburne that was known for holding out against supierior number at chattanooga on the flank while the rest of the confederate army was being broken by Thomas troops even though their position was deemed impregnible with the three solid lines and the sheer sight of the terrain on the mountain

Cleburne constantly drilled his men both in accuracy and rapid reloading, to a much greater extent than other commanders in the AoT.

I have a thread going in the Help to improve AACW thread titled Confederate elite brigades.

Post up whatever you know about the unit I'd be curious to check them out.

If you add a general does the general assigned to the Bge still have command points? is it possible to then get the magic 8 command points this way or do you still have to assign another (2nd) general to get the 8 points?

Good evening. I have been CW reenacting for 22 years, that entire time as a member of the 24th Michigan - a member of that historic brigade. The brigade was formed by General Gibbon, who was a division commander in the II Corps at G-burg. by that time the brigade was under the command of Solomon Merideth from the 19th Indiana. Reynolds was acting Wing commander and Doubleday was acting I Corps commander.

I am new to the game and I am GLAD to hear that there is an Iron Brigade included. I was wondering how I was going to create it. :hat:
