Question: What is the proper way to use Allan Pinkerton?
I notice he has '100' for his EVADE value, so that tells me he's like a spy, but he's listed as a general....Am I supposed to put men under his command, or use him alone?... Or what?

Send them both to Alaska to study Russian troops. LOL T

He is a spy. Use him alone and move him around to peek at the enemy positions.

yeah but arsan...dont they both aid the evade numbers, thats what i thought?....quess i am wrong?...that if you droped in in an army it ups your evade possibility?

I don't think so. The lowest evade on the stack should be used.
Pinkerton can't make arty and wagons hide and move quickly...
So, on a stack you will lose Pinkerton high evade advantage.

LOl true Bark he was off on that 1, but he was still all in all a highly respected detective of his day and seems hard to judge him on 1 piece of faulty Info, besides Pinkertin just told the boss what he wanted to hear, youve never done that too, to save your job?

True, but i also think McClellan was too eager to believe something he wanted to believe... anything which served to delay taking action, which gave him more "glory" for his "achievements" and supported his "gimme more" requests...
I'm not sure who convinced who: Pinkerton to Little Mac or Little Mac to Pinkerton...

like i stated in another post mac was more than willing to believe it because if he lost on the pen.he could claim he lost to superior enemy forces and that he was hamstrung by the gov.refusal to send the rein.he was constantly demanding.on the other hand if he won it would prove his "genious"in that he had defeated an enemy twice his size,a win-win sit.as far as he was concerned"Prince"John magruder also did a masterfull job play acting that his force was much larger than the 10.000 he really possessed.that and the use of "quaker" guns in the yorktown defences slow mcclellan considerably.but estimating that forces# at 200.000 is more than a little off imo,steven sears's book "On To Richmond" is an excellent account of the campaign,he does'nt pull any punches in his critisicm of mcclellan

Pinkerton might have correctly estimated there were 200,000-300,000 confederate troops in the entire state of VA in 1862. There is some controversy about whether Pinkerton's reports were inaccurate or simply interpreted inaccurately. McClellan seems largely responsible for the error of thinking every enemy troop within 500 miles was directly facing him.

The performance of spies might be changing from patch to patch. I've played one campaign where a spy could easily visit any region regardless of enemy police power there. Lately they always seem to get captured.

Another question is how to use Mosby? I usually use him with 1 cav on passive stance around the Shennedoah valley. He is a good scout, and gets away most of the time. The problem is river crossings force an attack stance.
