Do you prefer for an army to have more or fewer corps, given the same number of divisions. With the Union's typically inferior 3-stars, I tend to only build 2 or 3 armies, with Hooker commanding everything in Virginia, Grant in Tennessee, and Rosey in the West. That said, each may oversee ten corps of 2 divisions each. Corps are not commonly in the same region, but rather form a long "line of battle" of a strategic scale. In TN, this is largely to give Grant's bonuses to as many generals as possible. In VA, it's largely to prevent Athena from sneaking around into my rear. I'd be a little more comfortable if my forces could move to intercept her columns without my explicit orders, but the 2-week orders cycle makes it a real hassle to catch her after she moves.

Without any hard and fast reasons, I have tended to build fewer, larger Corps, usually of three Divs each. Thanks for laying out your reasons, though - defnitely food for thought.

Incidentally, a good anti-raiding construct, at least for the smaller ones, is Cav x 2/HArty, or Cav x 3/HArty x 2 - season and flavor to your liking.

Why dont you just build few strong corps, and go for Richmond, it is much better than spreading your force like that.
