Using Training Masters

How do you guys tend to use generals with the training master bonus?

Do they stack (ie if I have two generals, say Bragg and Braxton, will troops get two XP per turn)? If so, do you find it's better to keep them together with your largest army to increase speed of leveling? Or split them up....

The experience factor is a part of the game I'm still very weak on, so love to hear vets thoughts. Seems to me battles are still (and correctly) the fastest way to get men increased, but I was playing some CSA and kind of thought through this one w/o figuring out a good answer.

I don't know if the ability is cumulative, but a good idea is to put them in some huge stack like a corps, especially over the winter season when you get 6 or 7 turns with minimal activity, so your troops enter battle that much closer to leveling up. Putting them in stand-alone units, except maybe for a full-size division, is a waste.

For what i know, no ability effect is cumulative.
So put them on two different stacks.

Don't forgot to receive the training bonus the units can not move that turn. So the best places to put them is a medium sized stack that isn't going to move. I put Hardee in New Orleans as I build up a garrison there of 600-700 points and they won't be moving- also if Hardee gets promoted he losses his trait. Bragg goes to Nashville and trains up the second line of defence while that front is stationary and a 2000 stack might be there for a while. Bragg can promote without losing his trait.
Also don't forget that a training master won't increase the experience of units that are still going through recruitment delay. If an arty with 23 days recruitment time won't gain any experience until fully ready.

Yeah, I'll second the "Corps Stack" philosophy. Best to put one of those guys in a large stack that's going to be stationary for awhile. Then again...a guy like Hardee is pretty useful as a combat commander. So big decisions have to be made there.

Training goes on even if the stack moves. So you could put Hardee or Bragg in a huge corps stack over fall/winter 1861 and use their stats and trained infantry to roll over Union numbers. The trick is to win quickly and decisively before replacements eat away at your units' experience.

Yeah, well, if we corrected every typo and other minor error, we'd have twice as many posts and half the efficiency. I know, because I love correcting too.

I'm sure the training master trait won't work if your stack has moved. Also once an element has gained experience points (or stars) it won't lose any of their experience regardless of how many hits/ raw recruits it absorbs. The only time an element loses experience is when it is completely destroyed and it is replaced through the replacement chit system.

No, it does lose XP for taking replacements. Example: I play with historical attrition for both sides. Invariably, one of my artillery units in a fort like Pickens loses a hit and gets a replacement. It starts out with 20 XP, but the replacement drops it to 19. Thus, it loses its experience star. I guess you've never experienced this. And I'm sure the training master trait does work even if the stack moves.
