Calvary Brigades

Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:41 pm

In the scenarios you have large calvary brigades. Can you build small calvary units into brigades when you are playing the largest campaign scenario? Can you build any units into brigades? I have figured out how to add two militia units together but that's it. I have the divisions, corps, and armies down. Thanks.

That is some interesting code though, to allow for "missing" elements while not having them automatically refilled by replacements.

Generally, elements that become missing during game play are replaced by the auto replacment rules, possibly due to the fact that the intial unit already had a previously existing real element in it's place. I suspect if the element is denoted as "empty" by pre-defining it with a "NULL" entry in the scenario setup, that it is able to be merged with an element of the correct pre-defined missing "family" class element. I haven't fully experimented with this since it seems to work intermittently depending upon the element.

Wait... so you're saying it's possible to mod every single cavalry regiment to be a 3C/1LA brigade simply with "null" entries? Granted, it would take awhile.

But there are some brigades made in IA and IL that are 2LineInf/1C but have room for one more LineInf. If it can be done with those regulars too, what's to stop it from being done with everything?

Even though I'm horribly afraid of screwing something up if I actually do something, I can still ask: what program would I need to modify the .uni, etc. files?

Wait... all the database files were created using NotePad and Excel? Wow, with suffixes like .uni and .ldr or whatever they all are I thought you needed some special coding program. Dang, maybe computer programming is easier than I thought.

>>OK... I checked out the first unit on the list, a VA inf brigade. I noticed a line called "flavor commanders". I am in a PBEM game as the CSA, and I have recruited some of these units, so why do the commanders' names not show up in the unit detail screen?

The name shows up just above the element box in the lower right hand corner of the game screen. It is just color.
My name is Aaron.
