Game will not play

Tue Apr 29, 2008 1:48 pm

Hello,

Today I just bought a copy of Civil War, but at this rate, I'm regretting throwing away the sleeve the box came with because I may need to get a refund at the post exchange for this tomorrow (and because I threw away the sleeve which was the only thing that had the barcode, I'm not sure I can get this refund). I mean no offense by this statement, I really do want to play the game, but it's not looking very hopeful at the moment.

It installs fine on its own, but once it gets to the end, it's "finalizing installation." And it sat there for at least half an hour. I did look in the forums, and read that I was to give it the control alt delete treatment, so once I did that, it claims to have finished. However, after patching to 1.09e, it still stays at 1/3 load progression, and refuses to go any further. I've turned off Norton, shut off internet connection, etc, but nothing seems to work. It just won't load. I never even get to the point where it asks for the serial code.

Am I fresh out of luck, or is there any possible solution? Thank you very much in advance.

Hello Basarin,

Sorry for your trouble. Here is the procedure to follow in case of problem. Write us at support@ageod.com (reminding your nickname and this thread please) if it fails again:

Question: AACW installs correctly and then wait with a message saying 'finishing installation'.

Answer:

The installer has launched the registration utility, but for some reason it does not appears on the screen.

First check that the installer window don't mask the utility. Try to reduce the installer window, or do alt-tab to check if a program named 'AGESettings' is not waiting in memory.

If this does not work, terminate the installer by clicking on the close button (do not cancel!). Alternatively you can close it by going to the task manager to terminate it.

You should have a program group created (in the Start Menu) with the game registered. There is a link to the registration utility, AGESettings.

In case of further problem:

The utility is installed in the game directory: by default in c:\program files\AGEOD's American Civil War\, it is named AGESettings.exe

In this don't work:

For a reason unknown the utility to register your key is not allowed by windows to run. This can happen most notably on Vista. Sometime it is because of a protection program like a firewall, antivirus and such.
Know though that the utility don't access internet and don't perform any special operation on your computer. It is a plain and simple windows utility to write your key in a text file and that's all!

What can be done is that you write the key yourself. Please open the file <game path>\ACW\Settings\general.opt (this is a text file, open it with notepad for example). At the end, you should see something like

serial =

enter your serial after equal, save and exit. Now launch the game, hopefully it will be ok.

Thanks for the response!

And I tried manually inputting the serial, though I had to add the serial = command right below part 7 of that file.

On theone hand, Agesetting DOES stop loading after I put that in when I try to load, and the load bar does progress a notch.

On the other hand, now my game is crashing before it can load, so I'm really no where closer to playing. >_<;

Still, thank you for the suggestion.

sorry, can you rephrase? AGESettings don't have a progress bar?

I meant to say that when I try to load the main game, it still won't load; it's the original problem still.
