Demo not launching at all.

Tue Jul 10, 2012 3:50 pm

Hey I wanted to test the game before buying it, but when I double click the aacw.exe, nothing happens. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.
I tried XP compatibility mode and running as adminstrator. I can see the aacw.exe in processes in the task manager using 3,5mb of RAM.

May be double check the drivers of your video card, ATI ones are prone to create issues...

Try installing the demo elsewhere than on C:\Program Files and then report back please.

Try the second and third sections of the following article:
http://www.ageod.net/agewiki/Vista_Saved_Games

Note: Do NOT install any patch on the Demo....

Further:

Installed NC to see if it runs. Same report. Must be a Win7 problem with my computer.
No more AGEOD games for me then? :p leure:

Could you access another computer and make a try there? Just to confirm the issue is really linked with your own config...we never saw something like this before...

Also, try running as Administrator [right click on the shortcut or exe file]

I have tried all advised suggestions including installing NC on my XP computer. NC just hangs when trying to load new game.
Very strange this as, when I purchased NS (Nobilis), it functioned fine on previous Dell (Win 58? can't remember) some 2 years ago I think.

Ah well, looks like I shall have to uninstall demo and NRC then. :grr:
Must also rethink possible ordering of next game as my Win7-64 and XP-SP3 computers have problems with AGEOD!!

Try disabling your AntiVirus and AntiMalware [Widows Defender?] software [disconnect from Internet first to be safe!]

...or, tell your AntiVisus to ignore the installed directory for all checks [I did that with Avast to speed things up!]

I'm sorry about that fact. If you order a game from the AGEOD website and don't wait months, we can always reimburse you; but from what I get, this is your old NCP that don't run on newer computers.

Did you manage to produce a game log with line by line logging, so we can see when exactly the game halts?

Ok... Very interesting log (for me :) ).

First it shows that you manage to reache the main menu and load a scenario, I did not get that. So this is not a directX problem, even with a message 'renderer exception'. So we can evacuate problems around the video card.

You confirm you reach main menu, right?

Second, 'access is denied'. Typical message about the operating system preventing file writing operations. We are definitively in a 'user account' problem. Windows is preventing the game to writes or even opens the turn files.

Generally we advise people to install the game on another partition, D: for example. If this don't work, be sure you are in admin mode, and/or do a 'run as admin' on the executable. If this don't work, shut down the internet and make a test with the UAC totally disabled (User Account Control), this is a novelty of Vista and beyond that can prevent files from being opened or written.

If this don't work, darn...That would be a premiere. Anybody with this problem managed to find a solution so far. I hope you will too.
