Windows 7 install problem

Mon Apr 25, 2011 7:14 pm

I am using Windows 7 (64bit). When I install, it hangs when it tries to run AGESettings.exe. If I kill it, the rest of the install finishes without error.

Once the install is done, if I run AGESettings, it hangs. If I try to run the game, it hangs.

I have UAC turned off. I tried installing into C:\AACW to see if that helped, but it didn't.

Can anyone help?

Tom

I have installed AACW in a laptop with W7 64, without problems...

Have you tried using a compatibilty mode (ie, in the properties of the exe, selecting compatibilty with WinXP SP2, for instance), before installing ?

You will need to manually insert the serial key into the game settings file. Please send me a mail at phmalacher@ageod.net with your serial key and I'll return you the filled up file.

Solution!!!

I figured it out! Google Chrome is the culprit. If Chrome is
running, it never works. If Chrome is not running, it works
instantly. If Chrome is running, I try AACW.EXE and it doesn't work,
sits in the Task Manager not doing anything, then I exit Chrome,
suddenly AACW pops up on my screen.

This makes sense -- I use Chrome as my browser of choice and rarely exit it.

It comes down to some deadlock between the settings and Chrome
(AGESettings acts just like AACW.EXE, and I am sure AACW checks for a
valid key immediately as it executes).

If anyone can verify this and post it here, I'd appreciate it. I sent this info to Phillipe Malacher, so the AGEOD team knows about it.

So, if you are having trouble like mine, try exiting Chrome.

Incredible!
I just encountered the same issue (settings that don't display at the end of the install) and closing Chrome immediatly made the install finishing without problem.
Thanks a lot! I wouldn't have thought of Chrome
