Installation Problems

I had the game working, but then it began freezing on the game load screen. After uninstalling it and then reinstalling it, it now gets stuck on the installation screen...it is 99.9% installed and it just freezes...every time I try it. What can I do...this is with Windows XP?

followed through with the manuel edit of the .opt file, and now it begins to load, but I now have a black screen with my navigation bar still present at the bottom and an hour glass for a mouse cursor. But it does not load. I have no security programs running during installation or when attempting to start the game. help
