Another test game as CSA against Union Ai early July 61. AAR begun in the mode thread bur for conveniance, posted here.
In this one, Union is more offensive in Virginia. Not due to last changes, AI being built from the start to be versatile. Sometimes shy, sometimes aggressive...

next turn
I toyed with the idea to send Beauregard in Maryland but finnally decided to place him between Winchester and Manassas...
Seems like I 've been inspired to not invade Maryland...
Banks is yet on the move...

In Missouri, Lion took Springfield from Price's hands

Virginia early august 61: The road to Rivchmond is open to Union. Of course, I may use the Shenadoah to strike in the Maryland but Washington is well strongly garrisoned...Richmond not.
Due to their victory at Manassas Union NM is higher thanmine, the "reculade" of Beauregard and Johnston being vilipended in Southern papers...

End August 61

Beauregard couldn't intercept McDowell, delayed at Manassas by a small US unit coming to garrison the town.. Where is going McDowell? Richmond with Magruder entrenched? the coast?

Same turn, Transmississipi: Union is blitzing into Missouri, Arkansas and Texas...

Early september 61: Union targeted Norfolk, McDowell is replaced by Mc Clellan. Some units from WV are marching through Virginia too...

In Missouri, Price and McCulloch feel a little surrounded... Union troops are retreating from Little Rocks, certainly in want of supply...

Early october 61
McClellan sieges Norfolk. beauregard on the way to fight

Huger holds Manassas in spite of Union attacks. Banks is back in the aera

I invaded Kentucky. Zollicoffer captured Bowling Green and have beaten the Union stack coming to occuppy this region. POrter is concentrating at Louisville though:

Lyon captured... Shreveport inn Texas. Bold and risky move Sibley couldn't break. At least, he took a wagon supply with him:

Last A S JOhnston stats...I got the lower... Johston may appear with more or less good stats. I chosed this way considering his prematurate death at Shiloh lets unknown what would have been his value with better experience in the late war...

Late October 61. yet some more surprises in Virginia:

Union has yet a large garrison in Virginia and 2 brigades at Harper's Ferry. mcClellan could run short of supply but I've to reinforce a bit Richmond aera... Beauregard's force is lacking cohesion too.

Porter seized Bowling Green. Grant occupies Paducah

In this game, contrary to the last, Union AI is very active here too.

early november 61: The Union army of the Potomac remains on the move, coming to Petersbrug. I've gathered forces around Richmond as Banks is keeping his position. Hooker is guarding SuffolK.

In kentucky, Grant retreated from Paducah after Polk's assault ( sort of Belmont, no?) Fremont, Porter are concentrating in Cairo...

Early November 61: Union Ai launched 2 offensives. Even unsuccesful in Virginia he maintains the threath:

Around Paducah and Nashville, Union AI offensive this turn is more succesful and ... well led, considering Union has taken Bowling Green yet:

Early December 61
Union AI stalled in kentucky, suspending offensive ops with Winter. Now, Porter is isolated and weakening

In Virginia, McClellan is retreating toward Fredericsburg after being defeated by Beauregard but I'm trying to cut the retreat path. Banks was repulsed too from petersburg and seems low on supply... Butler is seating at Washington...

Late December 61
McClellan reached Fredericksburg before Huger and Magruder could capture the town. They were beaten. Unfortunatly, Beauregard was unactive this turn and couldn't keep the pace with Union forces.
Banks is isolated but reduction of his force is slow as I've just an handful of units to oppose him.

Never forget Ai can do the right things. I pushed Polk toward Columbus as Union has left it unoccupied. But McClernand has advanced in the same time. A 2 days battle raged for Columbus; if Polk got a small victory the first day, the second concluded by his defeat and retreat toward the new supply depot I've built...
Porter, beaten retreated toward FT Henry and Donelson....Rather strange indeed.
So 61 is achieved. I saved Richmond and holds the Tennessee. I've built some units; Bragg has just joined AS Johnston in Nashiville with some new brigades.
I get around 40 WSU by turn; My inflation is around 40% ... 1862 should yet see some offensive of my own.

early January 62:
beauregard's troops lacking cohesion and considering the poor weather, I've decided to wait a few turns. I envisioned to hold Manassas in order to turn Fredericksburg and surround McClellan.
Alas, mcClellan retreated toward Alexandria. Union has let howewer a strong garrison at Fredericksburg

Not much move in Kentucky. Buell army is coming

Porter tries to extract himself toward Union lines. Polk is licking his wound and AS Johnston continues to strenfgten his meager force to keep Nashville in Confederate hands.
New generals are appearing. I'm using aamended version of the leader mod.

Late January 62:

In Kentucky, Union is maintening offensive:
McClernand pushed yet back Polk and Buell has reached Bowling Green

the financial situation of CSA early February 62:

less money and WSU at start, the lesser frequence of Money printing options and the dlayal of conscription until the first half of 1862 (entry being slighty randomized) is limiting options. Choices MUST be made. Currently, I can't get easily more money, but I've :
-to build fortification in Richmond
- to buy replacements
-to expand my armies with new units
- to create some more blockade runners to get a little more money and WSU
- to industrialize to get more Supplies
- to expand rail capacity
I can't do all. Losing any army would be horendus as I've yet some pain to replace the limited losses I got.

Objectives screen for the same turn:
losses are rather balanced between North and South but my manpower being smaller, I have to blood more Union side in the following turns.
CSA is getting more victories point each turn and Foreign inttervention level is growing slowly but not to the point to hope relief from UK and France.
NM are close. But using conscription is costly in NM.

Same trun, CSA replacement screen. You can't build new units and much replacements

Eastern armies with 2 more divisons under Holmes and Evans, a total of about 9 , pretty close to reality.

Tennessee Army same turn

Polk's force is about to be enlarged:

In the Transmississpi theater, a large division under Price, a large texan one under Sibley and small periphical stacks in Arkansas mainly.

AI blunders or supply considerations?
AI deserted this turn both Bowling Green and Fredericksburg

Sterling Price division In Fayetteville: Missouri force appears in 1861 as a collection of untrained and underequipped force. In the next months, they slowly improve to better status

Late March 62:
Amphibious assault on Norfolk. Fortunatly, Garrion resisted.
Lee has taken command of the main army.

Small Union offensive actions in Kentucky

I'm buying infantry replacements.

Early April 62
I'm engaging limited attacks.
Beauregard takes back Harrissonburg

Lee seizes Fredericksburg against McClellan

Grant is here! Around Norfolk...I've sent Jackson's division to this aera:

In Kentucky, Union offensive is taking unexpected paths...Foolish or disturbing? We'll see

Last, Buell bypassed Southern defenses on Mississippi and seems to target Little Rocks... The stack has 3 supply wagons...AI will need them.

So Union AI sent suddenly these 2 last turns several forces without adequate line of supply...

Late April 62: Union AI saved part of these forces

The small Knoxville garrison saved the day but I lack sufficient forces to crush the invaders

Lee maintained offensive against McClellan
