Early May 62

Beauregard captured briefly Winchester but retreated soon in face of large offensive moves by Northern forces targeting Western part of Virginia

Winter in Missouri was very quiet for both sides. last turn, Price's division took back Springfield for the CSA. Union is reacting now...

And the financial situation remains uneasy

Image

Printing money would rise inflation above 40%. I've more WSU, but manpower is representing about 5 new infantry brigades. Call for volunteers in the next turns will consume a large amount of money I need desperatly, but conscription will cost many NM...I don't have yet chosen between the 2 options...

and Richmond fortifications are needed...

Late May 62 turn:

Both armies decided to launch full scale attacks, but not on the same point.

I launched Lee against Manassas and Beauregard toward Harper Ferry

Union moved Potmac Army to the Valley where Mcclellan fought victoriously.

Beauregard resigned ( random leader removal...)

Image

In the Southern part of the State, Mansfield escaped Jackson and is assieging Petersburg. Grant jumped to Norfolk and assaulted the town. Once again, the garrison resisted thanks to heavy artillery in place.

In Kentucky? Rosecrans has taken command of Sigel's surrounded detachment, but is utterly defeated by Johnston's forces

Image

Union is concentrating at Lexington

Image

Union is converging in Arkansas to Ft Smith. McClernad avoided stravation at Little Rocks by moving west. I had dispatched a strong CSA brigade at Little Rocks to bolster the defense...for nothing

In Virginia, I sent Stuart on a raid around Baltimore. Was beaten.

Union AI is yet trying to seize Norfolk, with Mansfirld force. Grant tried to move around Richmond but was beaten too by Huger's division, in transit to Petersburg. McClellan is concentrating in the Valley. I tried to catch him with lee, but he moved back to Harper's Ferry

Buell is moving against Ft Henry and Ft Donelson...at last ( effects of the new events just implemented I hope). Surrounded forces around Nashville were crushed...

Image

In Missouri, I retreated Price's division from Springfield to Jackson port the last turn. Jackson port is near litlle Rocks, Mississippi and may be used as a jumping position to raid into Missouri.

But J. C. DAVIS has pursued him and won the battle...

and the most astonishing these moves aren't the results of any new event created by me. i made some recently and I've yet to see if they works but this is really AI alone. I suppose having reducing the long range raids by land and forciing Union to build more vessels is helping it. Now remains to see if it's able to build some supply on the beachead...More dubious on this one... ;)

early April 62 was a mixed turn for Union AI: some terrible defeats but some good moves.

The bad:

In Virginia, the remains of Grant's corps were slashed by an overaggressive Lee. The odd ratios let no hope for Union

Image

CSA has gained 5 NM tahnks to this victory. And promotions are numerous

Image

But otherwise the AI has done interesting things: McClellan concentrated at Winchester, Heitzelman rushed from Western Virginia to Petersburg and Mansfied replied to Ft Monroe

In Kentucky, I joined to counter Buell Polk's corp and Sibley's division to the Confederate garrison.

Bragg being on leave( random event which just fired) I don't committed his Corps in command disarray and I prefered keep the third Corps of Johnston'a Army in position at Bowling Greene to fave a possible Union attack on this point, which was not

CSA won a slight victory. But the last events I've integrated to help AI to focuse more on KY than on Missouri works well apparently

Now, the better:

In Missouri, Curtis is penetrating Arkansas. Lyon is back too. for some obscure reason, Price didn't moved and is totally starving the half of my force in this theater...

Late July 62:

Virginia: Longstreet future Corps trapped Heintzelman but if you look North US ressources seems yet huge. ( I'm going to adress the AI rendancy to run against Petersburg in dispersed mode)

Image

Kentucky: Polk pursued Buell but was beaten. Sigel is running on my rear and Fremont has suddenly come close to Bowling Green...

Alabama:

On these 2 secondary fronts, Union Ai is keeping the initiative. Its most glaring error is to keep undefended Objectives cities but i've reintroduced since this turn the autogarrison feature which is now working.

Unfortunatly, the release of SVF 1.0 (yes I can ;) ) has forced me to leave this AAR as it wouldn't be fully compatable with the new version.

But I will do another... :D

Thanks for the AAR anyway. Overall the Union AI seemed to be doing a pretty good job. Maybe a couple errors, but if you think about it humans don't always do the smart thing either :siffle: .

Good aar. I will soon start one against rebel ai. In svf mod ofcourse ;)
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

The AI will unfortunatly do more than a couple :D but frankly, in this one I had really to think about my play. I'm not the best player but not totally unexperienced too and Athena is, whatever her lackings, showing more ogften some brilliance here and there.

There are certainly improvments to be done further, mainly in the KY/TN aera in naval affairs for Union. And I'm convinced in the end any player will win against AI. But I'm for my own convinced the game to be interesting and a little closer to the history...

Thanks
