Late February 62

Kentucky

until the 1.0 version of SVF, AI didn't showed a sufficient attention to Kentucky. It's now over , at last for CSA AI. Most reinforcements are coming to this theater. A S Johnston is now bordering Ohio...Maybe will he cross the next turn toward Cairo?

Hindman is back to Humbold. Bragg has been seen at Huntsville

Image

I've almost achieved my own preparations for Spring offensive. I plan to send 4 divisions under Buell command against Bowling Green; in the same time, 2 divisions will capture Lexington and protect Buell's rear.

Grant has built too a depot at Paducah. I will use it against Columbus and Island 10 in coordination with Pope and the fleet. If all is going well, I should then have the choice to go forward to Memphis, Corinth or Nashville.

Late February 62

Missouri:

McCulloch leaves Jefferson to siege Springfield, rather weakly defended. I've too to squash some Confederate guerilla. I need more cavalry here.

Late February 62:

Virginia

Johnston has attacked Sumner at Manassas who retreated after defeat. Banks is back to HF, Mcclellan is expanding his Army.

Image

The Valley is strongly hold by CSA... I'm more and more attracted to try a landing in the Peninsula.

Florida:

Butler almost succeeded to take Ft Clinch

Image

Image

As a side note, the SVF naval model seems to work pretty well. The large Union fleet inflicted 7 hists to the garrison and was hit 5 times. Ft Clinch hasn't the big Columbiad, so in anay case, a fleet alone can't wipe a garrison but the garrison can't too harm too much the navies. I know in some case during the first months, some forts surrendered to fleet alone but in nay case, AACW garrison are much stronger than historical. So I feel I 've found here a workable compromise.

early March 1862: I form Corps in my Armies: Heintzelman, Sumner, McDowell, Banks and Keyes for the Army of the Potomac, Grant and Pope under Halleck command.

Butler has yet failed to capture Ft Clinch... In Missouri, McClulloch has come back to Jefferson, I suppose because of a lack of supply. Bragg stack repulsed an Union Cavalry recon move.

In Virginia Iv' sent Heintzelmann against Johnston, but CSA AI has retreated him to Fredericksburg. Jackson is back, in the Valley, facing Banks...

A Confederate stack has appeared in Eastern Kentucky; I've indded to guard the Buell's rear.

Late March 62:

Virginia:

Confederate are very aggressive. Kirby Smith's corps vainquished Banks at HF and Beauregard's Army won over Heintzlman at Manassas

Image

The unexpected Beauregard 's move confirms me I should try to turn by sea Confederate forces.

Kentucky: Johnston remains idle. Winter is gone, my forces are ready to strike

early April 62/ I was at last ready to embark McClellan's Army the next turn to the Peninsula.

But Confederate have done this:

Image

Jackson is now close to Baltimore. I risk to lose 5 NM by turn.

Kentucky:

Buell offensive against Bowling Green is a complete success. But Confederate are targetting Eastern Kentucky and maybe Cincinnati

The situation is even more complex around Columbus : Grant lost against Hardee at Columbus, but the latter crossed the Mississipi to Belmont. Pope refused the battle and has taken refuge at Cairo. Missourian guerilla is on my rear and The fleet attck against island 10 was unsuccessful.

Late April 62

Around Gettysburg:

I launched Army of the Potomac less Sumner's Corps against Jackson and K. Smith stacks. Jackson retreated before the battle to Lancaster. I get a chance to destroy it one more time.

Kirby Smith has retreated toward the Shenandoah Valley.

Beauregard remained at Manassas, sieging it.

Kentucky late April 62

Confederates tried to capture Cincinnati. They failed thanks to the motley collection of units I scrapped in the vicinity to beef up the garrison. Johnston moved slowly to the West, menacing Louisville, now deprived of most of its garrison.

They're other CSA forces , penetrating slighty in Ohio. Van Dorn has been reproted to be present at Knoxville...

As Buell was unactive and unable to reach Cincinnati in one turn, I let him at Bowling green, hoping situation would be clearer. I feel as necessary now to retreat to Louisville by rail in the next turn.

Virginia early May 62:

OK. MClellan and all Corps leaders are unactive this turn. Many regions are muddy. I tried in spite of all this slowiness to catch Jackson. Keyes ha beaten him but moves aren't achieved.

Banks moved to cut the retreat line and discovered K. Smith.

In the same time, beauregard dispersed the Union garrison at Manassas and Jonhston came to Alexandria to inflict a sound defeat to Sumner...

Kearny is coming back from a large recon raid in the South and Fremont is coming, slowly, to the Valley.

Kentucky early May 62:

Johnston lasst move perfectly deceived me. rather than attack Louisville where I've placed Buell's Army, Johnston reinforced the Cincinnati siege. At last, CSA forces are now very exposed to a counter maneuver to cut supply lines and retreat path

No deep raid in Ohio, Confederates are concentrating on border of Ohio.

But the AI isn't unactive in Western kentucky. Fist Hardee is marching through Little Egypt to join Kentucky.

Van Dorn and others units have moved to Nashville. The Union division holding Bowling green seems doomed to be the next victime of a large Confederate offensive

Late May 1862:

Virginia...or should I say Maryland?

I felt last Beauregard's and Johnston's troops toward Washington were a prelude to a large scale attack on my CapitaL; Mclellan being always unactive, I chosed to move him bacjk with 2 Corps at Washington.

I was right.

Beauregard and Jonhston stormed first Alexandria then Beauregard crossed the Potomac and entered Washington region.

The ensuing battle is a hard needed Union victory...

Fremont is yet slowly advancing in the Valley. K. Smith and Jackson are on the contrary yet in PA...

Far from being what I hoped, the situation in Kentucky is maybe containing some premises.

Johnston'army didn't attacked Cincinnati this tturn ( I suppose because of a low cohesion level); Buell is now ready to defend the region so the next turn could give me a victory over the primary troop concentration in the West.

Image

In the same time, CSA AI is leading some raids in West Virginia from the Kentucky:

Image

In the Columbus region, CSA attacked Bowling Green. My Union Division had left for Saint Louis the region.

I concentrated Grant and Pope to seize Island 10. First moves are promising too but Hardee and price are close...

Early June 62

Beauregard seems trapped at Washington. another battle raged here, giving to Union another small but costly victory

Image

These 2 big battles haven't yet caused the destruction of one regiment, like in the real thing.

Situation in Virginia remains confuse, and I've lost trace of K Smith and Jackson. Magruder is back to the peninsula. Fremont is at last at harrisburg but unactivated . CSA is hloding firm both Winchester and Fredericksburg

In West Virginia, Confederates took Grafton but Bragg retreated toward Kentucky...

At Cincinnati both armies haven't yet fought. Buell is unactived but I hope to have trapped Johnston here too.

Image

Grant is advancing slowly on Island 10and Pope will protect his rear against Hardee or any other butternut detachment.

Image

I've taken back Ft Leavenworth (Kansas), perfect example of small battles results in SVF

Late june 62

Victory and disater in Kentucky

Johnston was indeed unable to retreat. several battles reduced his Army almost to nil. A great Union victory.

But in the same time, Hardee's corps and Hindman's division converged to louisvlle, poorly garrisoned and took it...

Early July 62

Confederates remains highly aggressive here ( a rare occurence which has fired, Ai being normally more cautious). Beauregard is offering fierce resistanvce but is slowly reduced, Jonhston attacked without success Baltimore.

I'm taking offensive in the Valley.

Small CSA forces are entering West virginia

Image

In Kentucky, I've now a large superiority and I begin my offensive

Grant and Pope have captured island 10...Forward to Menphis!
