Hi guys!

I'd like to hear your opinions on how the PBEM/MP forum works and what we can do to make it better. More specifically, this encompasses things such as:
 • Are you able to find opponents you are looking for?
 • Is there something that would make it easier to find suitable opponents?
 • Are the thread prefixes helping?
 • What about being able to close threads?

This list is by no means exhaustive; feel free to "opinionate" about how the PBEM/MP community is working, to your heart's delight

What's in it? Though I have limited experience with PBEM/MP myself, I do consider PBEM/MP to be a cornerstone in the "AGEOD experience", and I want to make sure that we are doing what we can as a community for make it as good as it can be :)

Well, since you asked, I will blurt out my hearts delight :D

I have always found it slightly confusing the AACW tournaments are sub-forums of PBeM forum; not much matchmaking going on in those :bonk: To me they would appear to actually belong as sub-forums under the AACW AAR sub-forum (dunno if it is possible technically to have a sub-forum in a subforum though?), all the other PBEM MP AARs are after all in the War room aka AAR forums :)

The ability to close threads you've yourself started in the "looking for opponents" -forum would be nice. By closing the thread you would be telling everybody in clear way that you are not looking for (more) opponents anymore.

Oh, we can have as many subforums in a subforum as we like. It's a bit more tricky when you want a forum to be a subforum of several separate forums, but that can be solved via linking (as we do in many places already).

But you're raising a good point. When the AACW tournament forums were first set up, they were primarily used for organizing the events, and thereby had much in common with the regular PBEM forum. Also they are strictly PBEM events, and therefore relate closely to PBEM in general.

However, as you're saying, once the events got underway, they have much more in common with the AAR forums. What do people consider the best places for these forums, and what are the best ways of providing a path to them?

It works well for me.

[*]Are you able to find opponents you are looking for? YES

[*]Is there something that would make it easier to find suitable opponents? BY SUITABLE I THINK OF PLAYERS THAT FINISH WHAT THEY STARTED, OR THEY LET YOU KNOW THEY WISH TO INTERRUPT OR END PLAY. IF WE COULD FIND A WAY TO IDENTIFY PLAYERS THAT DO EITHER THAT WOULD BE GREAT. IN THE SLITHERINE CEAW Grand Strategy FORUM THEY HAVE A SPREADSHEET TO WHICH PLAYERS SUBMIT THEIR WINS AND LOSSES. BY LOOKING AT WHO LOST YOU KNOW THEY PLAYED TO THE BITTER END AND IT IS A SAFE BET THEY WILL DO SO WITH YOU. THAT SEEMS TO WORK WELL.

[*]Are the thread prefixes helping? YES

[*]What about being able to close threads? Thanks for the reminder about the thread tool, I had forgotten about it too!

Tag, if you have sensible feedback about how the PBEM forums work and how well they support the PBEM community, it's just as welcome as anybody else's :)
