Best known for shooting and killed a superior officer, Major General William Nelson, after being slapped. Was friends with the Governer of Indiana and that along with the support of some of his fellow officers kept Davis from standing trial for the killing of Nelson. A corps commander version of Davis needs to be added. He commandedthe XIV corps in Sherman's march to the sea and the Carolinas campaign.
