Is it possible or the Union player to avoid the St. Louis massacre and keep Missouri loyal to the Union?

Yes, avoiding the massacre is random, but the main effect is that neither Lyon or Price appear and loyalty moves towards the South...but not to an unstoppable level...so provided the Union send troops and appropriate commanders over the Mississippi, he may recover from the blow (especially because there won't be that many CSA troops in front of him)... it's a diversion of efforts but an interesting one
