Activated General Question

Do they have to check every single turn to see if they can attack?
I've noticed that I lose the option alot of the time after a really big battle, and while I guess I can see some realism there, it bugs me that I can't always attack.

Activation is checked every turn for all generals
It works something like:
Die roll 1-6
If die roll > = Leader Strat Value
Leader is activated.
There are some other variables (for instance if a leader is activated gets bonus next turn to activation)
So a 3-1-1 Activates around 50% of the time
Remember USA 2* & 3* generals are bad and they get activated very few times.

Hi
You can play without leader activation (check the options menu) but i would not recommend it.
You will lose one of the best simulation mechanisms of the game and unbalance it against this south. Without it, you cannot really understand the problems Lincoln have to face.
Coping with the USA awful leaders is "frustratingly fun"
If you find it too frustrating, try playing with the south. Their leaders are generally much more active but you won’t have as much money, men and supplies… just like in history!
Now, i´m supposing you are playing with the north. If you play with the south and have complains with the activity of your leaders… just don’t try the north!!

I was playing with the north, and the lack of anyone wanting to fight caused me to pause the game and start another as the CSA.
It's just too much sometimes to have three different stacks doing nothing more than having a staring contest with the enemy.

Lincoln would have agreed with you!

Does this mean you would recommend play with no movement allowed unless activated? I have played some as the Union and many times the leader won't activate but I move into the area anyway. I either draw an assualt from the CSA forces or lay siege.

I dont like this option. Seems buggy to me as there are lots of problems with LOCKED troops. (You can not do ANY action!!! ... Join brigade / promote...)
JUST WAIT until you can move. Once you are activated MOVE!

Remember...you can move them into enemy territory when not active. They will automatically revert to offensive posture, but fight at an additional 35% penalty I believe.

Depends on which option you're using.

Hi!
I have not try the hardened activation option still. I think i´m not enough masochist for it... yet
I will recommend to play with the standard activation option at least until you are fairly veteran with the game and go searching for new things.

Thanks for the feed back. The info about the 35% penalty for moving into an area without activation I had overlooked.
