When used as a scout\spy does Pinkerton give reliable information regarding enemy troop strength? Is there any other use for him?

Yes he does. He usually can't see more than unit types, but when he can see troop strengths, I it is accurate. At least, I've looked at Athena's game and never noticed an inaccuracy. You can't use him to occupy territory - he's not a line unit. (I have a compulsion to try these things)

I don't know why he gets a strength value, but I suppose he could be included in a stack like other support units. It just wouldn't be a good use of his sneaking ability.

Has anyone else noticed that in the April 61 GC, Allan Pinkerton arrives 1 year later than he should? He shows up in 1863, not 1862 as he did historically.

Quite right! I hadn't even noticed. Should be easy to fix in any case.

Initially it was my mistake...then when I saw it, i decided to keep it like this because in game turns, Pinkerton provides the Union with a decisive spotting advantage and my analysis of the situation was that his initial network was not up to best performance....

In other words, what you get in 1863 is the "efficient" Pinkerton

How about an early version of Pinkerton that has 'poor spy' ability? Then switch to the good one?

That would be even better....just lacked the time or the idea
