Looks like an amazing game, but quick question before I buy....

The price to download is 33.44 €.....but how much in US dollars is that?
I know the dollar has been dropping like a rock and Im not sure what the conversion rate is.

I think I found it.....1 Euro = 1.4657 U.S. dollars.
33.44 x 1.4657= $49.00
Is that correct?

Sounds about right, but since I'm guessing that you are American, you need to also deduct the VAT to find the cost of the game.

Not sure how much that is, though.

Nop, Jones is right.
The price is 33.44 €, VAT deducted.

Well that sucks. Oh well, I may have to wait a bit. 50 bucks for "download" version is a bit steep.

We get most of the money when you buy from us, this is also a way to support us.
However, if you can't afford the money my best advice would be to check your favorite local store: CDV has begun AACW retail distribution in the US two weeks ago, that' would be the best bargain for you. Ask me if you don't find it I can advice you some stores...
Best regards,
Korrigan

Yes, the CDV version has been on shelves of the local Best Buy stores here in Richmond, VA for about two weeks now, not sure of the price though- no tags!

I wasn't going to mention this, but since the can of worms has been opened...
There's a very nice small company in Florida called Naval Warfare Simulations. They specialize in selling wargames to wargamers, and their service is extraordinary. You can find them by Googling them on the web, or by searching for their posts in the Wargamer's forums.
At one point earlier this year they had two different versions of AACW for sale in their inventory (the only difference was the box art). The European version, of course, was slightly cheaper than the Matrix version.
While their supplies of anything last they're often the best way to buy a European computer game in the United States because what they sell they have in stock in the US and can ship immediately: the longest delivery time I've ever seen from them was about five business days. If they don't have something in stock they tell you, and tell you how long it will take them to get it. They're also very good at sourcing out-of-print games: I got my copy of Take Command 1rst Bull Run from them (a title that is often hard to find).
My only criticism is that they charge a bit more for shipping and handling than anyone else, but given the quality of their service (truly personalized -- if you call with a question you'll probably talk to the owner of the company while he's having dinner), they are more than justified to charge extra. Besides, they don't deal in Amazon's volume, so they probably don't get the same discounts.
If they get a flood of business it would be bad for the rest of us: that degree of superior personal service is only possible with relatively small volumes.

It's worth every penny to support AGEOD directly. I'd get the download version direct.

Ahem... Sorry, but you've already advertised them in this forum without waiting for me to open any can of any kind.

I think you want to talk about about
NWS (link included)
Chris Dean is a member of the AGEod community and he is a friend of us. NWS was first US retail distributor to take contact with us when we released Birth of America. They really care about Wargames.
Chris is a very friendly personn and an excellent professional. He will never let a customer down, alway trying to match the best price and offering free games when he can't. His stock is simply amazing, and be sure to give him a call when you have a question.
If you are a US citizen and you can't afford to wait for the Euro to lower in order to buy from us I strongly advice you to order from NWS, as they truly deserves the support of the Wargame community.
Cheers,
Korrigan

If you don't mind me asking, what are your concerns about buying the download version? IMO, AGEOD has been able to address a fair amount of common concerns with purchasing games by download, and perhaps they have addressed yours?

I would imagine he has the same worries that I had about the download version, the "Just in case" factor. Just in case my computer hacks up its harddrive, I would have loved a seperate hardcopy to reinstall afterwards. Basically with the disk you get that insurance that if something (God forbid) happens to your computer you can still play your favorite game after you get your PC fixed.

Yeah, that and also that you normally get a discount when you download vurses getting the box with the map and all the bells and whisltes that comes with it. No worries though as would do me no good to have the full version now anyhow. Still got a lot of reading and work to do to get a handle on how to play so the wait for the box is no big deal.
I've waited almost 20 years for a good Civil War game, so a few more days won't hurt.

Gray_Lensman wrote:If you download the game and have a CD burner, (ACW is small enough to fit on a CD), and you don't burn a copy, along with the serial number to a CD, you are taking a risk that is of your own doing.
Everytime I purchase a "download" game I immediately burn a copy to either DVD or CD depending on game size along with a small text file with the serial number in it.
Yes, of course, that's what everybody should do (I, for instance, have a copy of all AGEOd games in 2 external drives and a "beautiful" DVD with BoA, AACW, NCP, serials and TC2M to boot !

).
But, even if all this somehow goes wrong

leure: , I am pretty sure that a legitimate buyer would be able to get some kind of good deal from AGEOD

I have seen several instances on this forum where a customer has requested a 'redownload' and AGEOD has accomodated them rather quickly. [The biggest delay I've seen was a Saturday request that went in late enough to catch Pocus in bed! He does sleep and take a day off now and then!!!

If you buy from us, we have you in our database, so there is always the solution of asking us, if all your backups solutions are void.

Hrmmm......can you purchase a big box set with all games included? I think I would also like to get the BoA.

I just want to go on record as saying that NWS is absolutely THE online company that I do business with. I started ordering games from them a few years back and I have never had reason to regret the choice. In fact, the second order I made kinda got lost when one of the two gentlemen I have communicated with, it could have very well been Warship NWS, came down sick and just lost track. He apologized so profusely that I felt pity on him and did not hold him to the restitution that he offered for my wait.
The guys are great. I will brag on them 'til the cows come home.
Warship NWS, you are the best!
