I was camped in Alexandria and managed to stare so menacingly across the Potamac (actually had no intention of crossing yet - sucker!!) that Lincoln evacuated the capital to an undisclosed location. Couldnt find it for several turns but then by chance the Indians attacking Fort Laramie way up in the north west made me notice the little dome next to it! a) is Lincoln a big pu$$y or what? b) should this happen?

A) Unnecessary

B) I have never seen it move to that site. I have only ever seen it move once per game, and if it does, it has always been NYC.

No idea where they would have tried to move it if they had lost Washington, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been New York City, even though it was a former capital. There would have been too much local hostility to the Federal government -- try to imagine the draft riots of 1863 (are they in the game?) taking place in the Federal capital.

With no historical research to base this on, if I had to guess I would say Philadelphia (another former capital though probably too close to the danger zone if Washington had already fallen), possibly Boston (though a bit too remote and certainly too politically radical), possibly Albany, or maybe even Chicago. But Fort Laramie is beyond the pale of comprehension.

New York is the cheapest in terms of morale lost at 50, Philly is an option, I forget what the rest are. Fort Laramie is not on the player's relocation list!

Of course, these are available to the player, no idea what tha AI can do with relocation.

The only places the capitol should move (Unless these cities are under CSA control) are St. Louis, Philadelphia, and New York.

I'd love to know the reasoning behind that.

This must be an objective region. The bigger the city, the better the value.

my response to this is that was obviuosly a minor glitch in the system as fort laramie is not an option to move your capitol... however very comical :)

As Pocus said, the capital has to be in an objective region. I think I can explain what happened, but why it happened is unknown to me. For the record, I'm playing with the Coming Fury mod.

In 1862 there is the Great Sioux Uprising in the Fort Laramie region. During those months, the Union needs to move troops to that region in order to offset victory point losses (and hopefully wipe out the Indian raiders before they get mobile). During one turn, I was looking at the Objective page of the Log book and Ft. Laramie was listed as an objective region. I don't remember if it was still listed on the very next turn.

So I think what is happenning in game terms is that Fort Laramie becomes an objective for a turn, to calculate the VP loss if the Union doesn't deal with the Indian uprising. I think the AI moved the capital that very same turn to Fort Laramie. I can see the logic of the move (move as far away from big, nasty army as possible), but it is definitely funny to consider, especially if the Sioux actually captured the capital.
