i've searched the threads and the manual for this and haven't found an answer. i noticed that redeploying a general causes his stats to plummet. is that a bug or functionality.

Its intended.
Just a 1 turn penalty to dissuade gamey tactics... like having Jackson teleporting and fighting every turn all along the estates, for example... :niark:

Redeploying a general will cause his stats to plummet for that turn. The next turn he will be back to normal. Look at it as jet lag.

okay, then something is wrong......i redeployed halleck in early june '62.....it is now late july and he is still at 1 0 1......experienced the same problem with redeploying other generals as well.

He's kind of a goon, so that may be accurate...

Those values were higher pre-relocation?

Halleck is that bad.... ;)

The drop in stats is the same you see when a general forms a division.

yah.......he was like 4 3 3 when i redeployed him......the point was to sub him for mcdowell who was 2 2 2 (i think)......at any rate, i've tried this a few times with others, including thomas who went from something like 4 6 9 (after winning several battles and being promoted to 3 star) and his stats went down to 1 0 1 as well.....then i reloaded and i'm in the process of sending him east by rail :^)

Sorry, but Halleck is really that bad. If you think you have seen him better, you must be confusing him with someone else :)

Halleck a 4-3-3??? No way! :niark:
Maybe he was Corps commander and was getting big bonus from an army leader??
But it must have been a very good army leader like Grant... and still those stats seems too high!.

As Rafiki says, Halleck is a 1-0-1 standard, without any penalty for redeployment. :p leure:
Maybe you have mistaken him with Hooker?? He is a 4-2-2 i think...
What version are you using?? Right now i'm playing with the last patch (1.09) as the CSA and had made several redeployments without any issues...
Cheers!

I believe Halleck has the recruiter ability, does he not?
I always put these guys in big cities, they never hear a shot fired for the entire war.

I do not believe that Halleck has the recruiter ability. However, leaving him in the big city is still the best plan.

Halleck has
$Training_Officer
$Master_Logistician
$Good_Admin_Army
Put him with the REMFs and let him train conscripts. Like in DC commanding the fortress troops....

Halleck was a corps commander for me under Grant.......i don't know what he started at, but after winning several battles he was either 4 3 3 or 4 4 3 when i redeployed him to head the army of the potomac......as soon as i redeployed him he went to 1 0 1 and never came back up.....version is 1.08d

Right.

He starts @ 1 - 0 - 1, plus his traits. When a General is made a Corps commander, he gets a bonus to his three ratings. This bonus is based on:

-The ratings of the Army commander
-The distance from the Corps to the Army
-A bit of randomness (The stats of the Army Cmdr. allow for a range in the bonus given)

If you leave the radius of the Army's command or take away his Corps status, the bonus goes away.

When a general is re-deployed he loses (I believe) 2 strategic, 2 offensive and 1 defensive for one turn.

What probably happened in your case is that he didn't increase his stats through any of his battles and then when you re-deployed him you were once again faced with the awfulness that is Halleck.

Im pretty sure it has nothing to do with the redeployment feature.
Giving 2-3 in bonus to a corps commander from Grant as Army bonus if close isnt a reach.
1-0-1 to 4-3-3 would be possible. This explains why after u remove him as corps commander(or remove him from the HQ range) he losses as Arsan says that bonus and reverts to old his stats. Im 99.9% this is the case and it has nothing to do with redeployment after the first turn.

As to the Thomas case, but not too Hallecks case since i assume u havent promoted him. The above is prolly the case too. On top of that. The following will prolly happen to him too. I see this happening with Thomas and other generals I wana rise in grade fast which means them doing many battles. This means experience. Experience in turn means higher off/def stats.
i've seen Thomas as a 2 star 3-4-8 all alone(no army bonus) from pure experience. "Problem", i've always assumed it's WAD, arise when u promote him or any other general with experience. He reverts to the given stats per that number of stars, per the leader list. So promoting a 2 star Thomas of 3-4-8 reverts him to a 3 star 3-3-6.
Same happens to me with Sherman every game who has to be promoted twice to get an army command. Aka reverting to his base stats twice.
Do note that promoting him both to 2 and 3 star alters his base stats, but any xp based rise in his stats will be removed is my experience.

Hope it helps,

Rasmus

Okay, okay, I give up. How exactly does one redeploy generals? I don't see anything about this in the manual, and I'm getting pretty frustrated. Especially since 90% of the generals spawn in Virginia.

Choose a general and go to the third tab. There is an arrow icon click on it and then send the general wherever you want.

BTW have you chosen the redeployment option in Options?

keep in mind your generals ratings will go up if they are corps commanders under a very good general, this is probably what happened.....he appeared good because of grant, but you moved him away and now he sucks !!!
