So I decided to go ahead and download the whole version of the game. Being the man that I am I quickly jumped straight into the long campaign as the Confederacy.
As such I've got a few questions.
First the game play related questions.
When the game hits July 1861 I can no longer drop unit stacks on each other. Instead of units stacking together, the AI will either try to move my unit to the province the stack tabs happen to be over on the UI or the AI will just set stacks right next to each other.
This means that I can no longer organize my armies. This is almost game breaking.
Then there is the issue of Kentucky. When I start the game I can recruit units there, and half the state appears under my control. Kentucky is supposed to be neutral at this point, but because parts of it are under my control, I figured it wasn't.
I entered Kentucky with two divisions and Kentucky sides with the federals. So what gives with this? When can I enter Kentucky without forcing it to side with the US? What happens if I recruit there?
Next I'm curious if the Confederate capital will move to Richmond on its own. This is the way it should be I think. It doesn't make sense for it to cost me to move the capital at the beginning of the game.
Commanding officers. I seem to be very short on these, particularly in the West. Do I just have to wait for more to activate?
Also I've restarted a number of times now. Sometimes I can form corps in Virgina, and sometimes the two star generals never seem activatible as corp commanders. Does anyone know what is going on with this?
When will more army HQs become available?
I'm also having trouble judging how much I should be recruiting and what types of units. Any suggestions here?
Some other issues I've had.
Why does it take two months for Sumter to fall? The news article attached to the event echoes the historical event, i.e. says the fort capitulated during the first day of bombardment.
Despite this, I had to wait two months for Sumter to fall.
Why are Virgina, Arkansas, North Carolina and Tennessee already in the Confederacy at the start of the game? Historically these states don't leave the union until after Sumter and Lincoln calling for volunteers.
There is probably more that I'm forgetting.
