Experience, Drilling & Upgrading

I got some question about these

1) Does Drilling FORCES Conscript upgrade into a regular unit, once 2 * attained?

In my games, once a Conscript (Line Infantry) gets 2 * Experience "Stars" by Drilling, seems to me that once upgrades to Line Infantry - (Late War for example) loses 1 *, so the resulting Line infantry gets 1 *, but a turn later.

This happens to me, regarding the number of men existing (750 or 1000) in the previous Conscript troop.

Dont know if is random but always seems to me happen.

2) Does UPGRADING forces the losing of Experience, for troops equal or more than 2*?

I ve never seen a Experienced troop losing the last (1* minimum), for instance, while Drilling the European Bde (5 militias - all 1*), some upgraded to Conscript (some of then 2*), then line, and always ended with 1*

3) Also, replacements in a unit with lots of experience are added with 0 EXP?

So A 2 * 500 men cavalry should end a 1* 1000 men once replacements are asigned...

It makes sense.
Most games do this in some way, the addition of replacements are 'diluting' the experience of the unit as a whole.

Replacing losses doesn't affect the experience of a unit. (http://www.ageod.net/aacwwiki/Experience)

Dunno about the first 2, though

Thanks to Laurence & you ... I have just read this Wiki... and trried to translate (with some small changes) into the Sp. forum... its very useful.

However, I still wonder why my European Brigade conscripts loses 1 Star once upgraded to line inf... I hope some of the denizens in the forum can help!

If the upgrade is done by script, then you don't lose xp. If the upgrade is done because you had xp on the unit, then you lose some.

Oh thanks...
so upgrading troops is posible by drilling a 2*?

So seems better NOT to Drill a 2* Conscript->

Either:
Wait until the random chance turns into Regular (so 2* are holded)
Train them with a adequate leader (Such as Cooper)

I'll summarize:

If an element have a TrainUpg entry in the database then it can be upgraded:

a) by an event, a small random chance each turn, and you don't lose xp.

b) because it is experimented. You have a 10% chance per level to get upgraded, and you lose 25% of your xp

c) by a leader. You lose an amount of xp which depend of the leader and his ability, but small anyway.

Also some leaders only give xp, which in turn can trigger an upgrade by experience.

Ok. That´s all seems. Thanks Pocus again

As an extra... Dont know if there is some forum thread on this, but I ll say here.

I remember several games (such as The operational art of war - computer with the "UNTRIED" status in his troops or leaders, or some ACW boardgame, leaders were randomly added hidden, as examples) that troops are not in the game with exactly all the bonus purchased.

It could be an interesting extra to this series, if troops & leaders get some random BONUS & MALUS after the first battle. For instance upgrading / reducing basic stats, or getting an extra experience star, once first shot seen.

This could help solve several questions in the forums.

How in the world do you drill troops?

I don't think I have seen anything I can do to upgrade units, it seems to happen automatically. Am I wrong?

There are some leaders with a special skill - MASTER DRILLER

Playing with CSA in the grand campaign you get 2 of them in a few months.
