Special Ability in a stack

Hello,

I´am new in this great game and I have a question. Hope somebody of you guys can help me with my "problem", because I can´t find something in the manual.

I would like to know how many units with special abilitys (Sharpshooter, Marine, Medicine…) I need in a Corp that everybody in this stack (divisions and independent troops) get the bonus. If I had 1 Corps, with 3 Divisions.
Do I need one of these units in each division and in the corps stack? Or is it enough to have a unit in the corps stack, which also gave my divisions which are located in the corps stack, the benefits of their ability?

Hope you know what I mean, my english is not the best… ;)

Thanks

medics and marines you need per corps.
sharpshooters to have the desired effect, need to be per division

The same aplies for Signal, Balloon, & Engineer units: per stack.

I like to form most Divs with a Marine or Sailor Reg in each for flexibility.

OK, this make sense if I use to work with independent divs... Thanks for the help!!

It's more expensive to put together the Div this way, but when you want to send one off from a corps for a side mission it gives you more Divs to select from.

You probably don't need all Divs to be this way, perhaps 1/2 or 2/3.
I'm still learning the subleties of the game (there are plenty!).

I have found that if the Marine or Sailor is put inside a divison, the stack loses its pontooner ability.

It really shouldn't. If you have a game or screenshots showing this (to help debug it)?

Hmmm...I had assumed that having one anywhere in the stack gave the whole stack this benefit.

I think that's how it's been working for me as the Union, advancing across Virgina's rivers at a decent rate of speed.

Tonight I did an experiment. In one of my stacks I had a marine brigade. I compared river crossings in two cases: 1) leaving the unit in corps and 2) placing it in a division. In both cases, the transit time for the stack was same. Removing the unit from the stack resulted in a longer transit time.

Oh, good to know! That means I can use a marine which is inside a division for the whole stack, without to change him from the div to the stack!

I always try to have a sharpshooter unit in every division because of the initiative bonus. Do I also get the initiative bonus when I add to the division a infantry brigade that includes a sharpshooter unit?
