Hi,
I have searched the forum and cannot find the answer (my apologies if it is there and I missed it).

Question:
Each general gets different attributes which affect various things. However what effect does the following have in a battle:-
a) Generals rank - 1*, 2*, 3*, 4*
b) Generals Attack/Defense rating
c) Experience of troops

Thanks in advance

Simon

Welcome to the forums! Image

General's rank affects the number of command points the stack has, and thereby if there is any command penalty and if so, how large it is.

Attack/defense rating improves the ratings of units under the general's command. 5% per point for stack commander, 3% per point for the unit (e.g. divison) commander (if he isn't the stack commander at the same time).

Not sure how experience affects combat, so I'll leave that for others to answer.

BTW, I recommend the quick reference guide put together by Hobbes

Thanks for reply. If I have a stack commander (say 2*) and a division commander (say 1*) does that mean I only get the Attack/Defense of the stack commander?

Cheers

Nope, if you have a separate commander for the division, the division will benefit both from the stack commander (at 5% per rating point) and the division commander (at 3% per rating point). Other units in the stack will only benefit from the stack commander.

Generals' ratings and attributes are over important starting from the total command points, proceeding with the attributes they give to the stack and ending with the bonuses they give in combat.

I can't stress further the importance of reading the manual, read it and read it well and once you've finished, read it again and then again....no matter how much though, only practice can teach you how to correctly employ each general and how to to make him do what you want him to do according to your masterplan. :)

Do not forget that general's ratings can be randomized so each game acts differently and...cherry on the cake, there's also a leader mod! :)

Unit and leader's experience

Units experience is used to have a better result during fights and an increased maximum cohesion level (see AACW manual).

But a good(?) question is :

How is Leaders experience taken into account ?

The AACW manual just says that it affects the leader's other attributes.
Tip : The NCP manual (v6.0) doesn't answer. I read it because it's supposed to be more recent and more detailed. And I supposed the rule concerning leader's experience is the same in NCP than in AACW.
Maybe the answer already exists in the forum ?

What I know: Leaders Experience improve basic stats, and, so combat

I dont know exactly but if a lider gets:

1 EXP point -> improves 1 Defensive Rating so, in defense +5% if corps / +3% if division
2 EXP points -> offensive rating is also improved.
and so on

dont know how the series go up , but I believe the strat ratings are also improved.

also, the troops experience adds also to the combat in a similar way...
1 EXP point adds -> 1 initiative and discipline
2 EXP--- attack firepower improved... not sure about this...

You're right

Yes, thank you... I remember having read something about this principle.
I must search into the forum to get the answer, surely Pocus has already detailed the process.
I hope these details will appear soon in the future manual (Hey, Laurence what do you think about it ? :innocent: )
