Help - units reverting to passive

For some reason units of mine keep on reverting to passive posture and I cant work out why, these are units that are within their command usage, well supplied and have decent leadership. For example im currently playing CSA and I want a Army and one of its corps to enter into Alexandria and lay siege, I make sure they are on offensive posture (orange) and they both enter that part of the map and lay siege - however a Union force also enters and I win a devastating victory yet both my army stack and its corp decide to change to passive (green) and retreat. So after laying siege, winning a battle I just dont see the sense in the game forcing a retreat.

Ive tried re-loading the saved game and replaying the part where i want to take Alexandria and can win the siege and take the city putting my forces on offensive posture once again to defend it, yet again another Union force enters and I win the battle with a hefty margin yet my forces revert to Passive posture and retreat allowing the Union to take the city without loss ??? I just dont get how a full army stack and a full corp stack just retreat without a fight.

Ive noticed this with other forces on the map regardless of size, I can leave a well led and supplied brigade to defend an important city and leave them on Offensive or defensive posture yet as soon as a Union force of equal or lesser size comes near my brigade retreats and reverts to passive.

If anyone can explain what is going on it would be a great help, this passive posture is really screwing up my world, in 2 game years Ive still got 2 CSA armies and their corps mincing around manassas and Winchester unable to make progress into the USA because of this.

There are a lot of 1.07 patches. Double check for the 'h', or d/l and install 'i'.

Also, take a look at the supply and ammunition status of the Corps/Army. I'm not sure of the design, but low or no supply/ammo may cause passive retreats to 'reload'. As part of this, be sure you've got an adequate supply net to a neaby depot.....

Otherwise, I got no clue (as usual! :siffle: )

Status going passive might also be related to failure in general's activation roll. When general goes inactive, it auto-switches to defensive or passive posture but if what he mentioned is correct, this happens during the resolution but it's not possible because going inactive happens in the planning phase of a turn (and u may select defensive instead of passive).

So yes, a bit odd....let's see what's the version number. :)

What were the odds when your troops were attacked? If your troops are outnumbered, often they will retreat.

odds were definately in my favour, a full army stack and a full corp stack - both well commanded, well supplied and at full strength. I had even won the battle its just straight afterwards the stacks reverted to passive that is the problem.
