In my current PBEM game I have taken a transport cruise down around towards Chattanooga and I passed by a Decaturville, then a Decatur and there is another Decatur if you follow the river around.
If it is already known, sorry. If not I will get a screenshot when I fire the game up shortly.

I haven't checked the map, but "Decatur" is a very common name for towns in the US (and especially the South). I believe most states have a Decatur, but I don't know if any have two. Most of these places are probably named for Stephen Decatur, a US naval hero in the War of 1812, who died in 1820.
(I myself was born in Decatur, Georgia, which is now basically part of Atlanta.)

They were just close together one east and west of chattanooga but they are in different states. I mentioned it because I didn't see the one east of Chattanooga on a couple of maps I was looking at from the era.

Nope, different states. I just brought it up because the one to the east/northeast of Chattanooga didn't appear on the map in Foote's first novel or another map I ran across trying to find out. I am sure it is fine and maybe both maps I looked at just omitted it or weren't real accurate.
