Retreating from battle?

This is not a bug but something I'm wondering about.
If I have two or three small stacks moving into an area from different regions to attack a large enemy stack is there a danger that one or more will retreat before battle due to being smaller in size than the enemy stack even though combined they are larger?
Maybe this is as it should be? Any thoughts? Maybe leader ratings should play a part in this? It could make a huge difference to a game. The knowledge that they are not alone should play a part. The software should know how many troops are set to enter the region in a given turn and this I think should have an impact on the chance of retreat.
Is this in fact how it currently works Philippe?
Cheers, Chris

No, once they are in the region, the decision is made at the faction level, not stack by stack. There is no real notion of 'physical positionning' once you are in a region.

The delayed commitment option might help you pull off these combined attacks without the individual stacks retreating. Make sure you don't have the option set to a low setting.
If no battle is triggered for a few days while all of the seperate stacks are arriving in the region, they shouldn't retreat. So, they might all be present once the battle is actually triggered, then fight together.

I can understand that physical positioning may be more for a tactical level game (although a small bonus for attacking into a region from opposing directions might be a nice addition - but very difficult to implement, I can see a lot of problems) but a coordinated attack with stack a arriving on day 1 and stack b on day 2 would be better resolved I think if they had a % chance to wait for each other to arrive before engaging in combat and be less likely to retreat before combat than if they were operating alone.
I know it's the C19th but they were aware of the other army groups in their vicinity.
The longer the gap in arrival time the less likely they are to wait for a combined attack and the more likely they are to retreat before combat.
However the regions are quite large.
Another button - to attempt to wait for allied forces to arrive before initiating combat?
Cheers, Chris
P.S. Philippe, I didn't read your reply properly. So if they are all in the region it works as I would hope (But not if they are still moving from an adjacent region).

One other thought on this :-
As the latest patch allows an army stack to initiate combat if on it's own I assume if two army stacks should enter a region the first into the region would initiate combat with the second attempting to support the one that initiated combat just the same as if it were a Corps stack?
If an army stack were to enter a region before a Corps the army would initiate combat with a chance that the Corps would join in?
Cheers, Chris

It will initiate combat only if there is no other stack, army stack included. So 2 army stacks won't do anything.
The rule is 'as is' since 1.07.0 or even earlier, but had a bug. Nothing changed on that Runyan.
