Army Headquarters, Naval assault

When can I get one so I can have more than one army? I am playing my first serious game and it is a few months into it. I took back Harpers Ferry since in this game I lost it (last game it held which was nice ;-) ) and Manassas (sp). I have a balanced military and am setting things up to have 2 more Armies out there.

Also, for an amphibious landing what do I do again? I am assuming that to load them onto a transport I just need to combine the units with the stack containing the transports and warships? Do I have to wait until I am in the region I want to unload them and wait another turn to do so or can it all be set up on one turn?

For example, I have 5 ships for bombardment and 4 transports in a fleet. I move the units I want into the fleet, move the entire fleet only 6 days away, unload on the shore and attack. Is that possible? I haven't been able to figure it out. Doesn't seem right to have to wait a whole month when I can get there in 6 days via ocean.

Sorry for the basic questions but I actually couldn't fall asleep last night planning my damn strategy for the next turn. 2 am I was still up devoured in this game. Now that I have most of the rules down and how things work I can't get enough!!

I don't remember the dates, but you will be able to build more army HQs in time. IIRC, the first ones get added towards the end of 1861?

Yes

No, not amphibious assault. If you were "just" transporting them to a friendly harbour, you could move them directly into the harbour and get them unloaded.

There are different ways of explaining or justifying this. The way I think of it is that in that day and age, amphibious assaults would need a lot of preparation, planing and meticulous execution, so it would be expected to take time

Thank you for the quick reply!! I was waiting to hear back before I proceed with my next turn to make sure I couldn't do it all in one step as outlined above. Launching an offensive on some ocean side forts and didn't want to get left hanging out there for another turn if I didn't have to.

I understand the delay though. It isn't like they had landing craft, wireless communication, GPS positioning and all the other new technologies. I can imagine cooridinating an amphibious assult of any complexity and number would have been difficult at best!
