Radiating lines

Sorry, can't find this and don't really know what to search for.

Select a unit and press the shift key. You will see blue or grey lines radiating from the unit to each adjoining territory. What do the lines signify :tournepas

Blue means you have to cross a river. I'm not sure why some are light and some dark blue though when they go across the same river?

It looks to me that dark blue are naval/riverine pathways out of a region into a water zone. Light blue indicates crossing a river. Perhaps there are more shades? So it may be more subtle.

I do not see a decisive indicator of rail or roadway: black seems simply to indicate the absense of a river-crossing. Again, there may be more subtlety than I perceive, taking into account military control of the destination region (thus influencing rail availability).
