About Union Reinforcements in enemy-occupied regions (and units besieged at depots)

Afternoon!

I went into my second PbEM yesterday with Hasardeur, April 1861, me playing the Union (as usual).

On Turn one my esteemed opponent made the usual moves, he conquered Fort Sumter, occupied Norfolk and made an assault on Harpers Ferry which, much to my own surprise, failed.

On Turn two he tried another assault on HF, which again was not successful, the "Harassed Heroes of Harpers Ferry" ("Harpers Weekly" headline :sourcil: ), out of ammo and with less than 100 men left fit for duty, still hold their own. So far, so good. But...

1.) As I said, Sumter fell on Turn one. Yet now, at the beginning of Turn three, there's a message in the Union log: "US Ships Attempt to Reinforce Ft. Sumter". Lo and behold, there they are, a 2-regiments-brigade, locked for one turn, outside the gates of the fort. Inside is at least the coastal battery which H. captured on Turn one, so the region was and is still enemy occupied. I never have seen this event before, in any game. Is this WAD? Seems to me the Navy got there a wee bit late (Maj. Anderson must be seriously pissed about that :niark: ) but its ability to sneak in under the guns undetected and land two full regiments of infantry there unopposed sure must be recommended... :eek: :innocent:

2.) This is not a question about a supected bug, but about supply mechanics:

As I said, my garrison at Harpers Ferry is besieged and totally out of ammo, yet it is sitting inside a structure with a depot and the depot icon still shows a neatly stacked pile of ammo. Shouldn't my fellows be able to replenish their ammunition until the initial stockpile (still 58/16) is depleted? After all, they are still drawing rations, why not a few spare cartridges, too?

LOL.......funny, I just had the Sumter reinforcements happen to me the other night for the first time. They just sat outside the fort for a turn or two and then dissapeared. No prob. game wise. But it was a little humorous imagining those two bde's hugging the beach sand waiting to be picked up by some Union ships.

Sure, it's not a big deal, especially not in SP. And of course I do not object to getting yet another free unit :sourcil: . Once they were unlocked I immediately pulled them back safely to Washington. But since it was in PbEM, I wonder wether, if I was a big old meanie instead of an big loveable teddybear :nuts: , I could have exploited it by raiding Hasardeurs undefended harbors along the eastern coast with this conveniently placed free brigade. Is it even possible to "river transport" a force into a naval assault without actually using a transport ship? If, yes, well, than this event opens up an opportunity for a nasty exploit and should be adressed, IMHO. :)
If not, then it's just a really nice "wtf?"-moment and might stay the way it is now for all I care... :tournepas :innocent:

This particular event has a 10% fire chance.

As for the besieged units, they should be able to get ammo from the depots yes. Are they not?

No, they were not. I admit I did not check the available supply in the depot in each of both turns when they were besieged, but the Ammo icon above the unit panel was completely red on both turns and when hovering the mouse over the unit icon, the tooltip showed 0 ammo, while water and supply were 100% on both turns...
