That's Bull Run. Two turns. One casualty. (Patterson received a minor flesh wound.) Game over, thank you for playing.

Here it is with the victory notice.

AAR
Beauregard took his army to fight Patterson at Loudon. Not Patterson's troops, just Patterson. Faulty intelligence. He arrived back at Manassas, but Runyon was already in the city and Bory wasn't in assault posture. In the meantime McDowell, Hunter, and Tyler had waltzed into Richmond.

I'd like to see that repeated with activation off. Given that activation for the AI is such a hot topic in another thread, and that I think the crew will do something about it, it would be an interesting bit of feedback.

But to be honest, the best 'activation' challenge for that would be for you to be under full activation rules and the AI receive the -1 modifier to activation check that I spoke about in that thread. Release from activation for both you and the AI wouldn't be quite as challenging as that.

me too, I ran my game with the settings people duscussed in the AI thread. confeds were active! Jabberwock, outstanding! but hopefully the AI can be tweeked into no allowed this, in my game I got my clock cleaned at the gates of richmond.

what allowed me to win was my amphibious assault on georgia, 5 divisions to atlanta :P also regarding the AI, even using the "optimal" settings discussed in the AI thread I still had fragments of confed armys trying to bypass me around paduach and transit well behind my lines to attack nonsencial locations with no real value to the confeds, and of course those formations quickly devolved into 0 value stacks I was easily able to kill because of cohesion and or supply loss.

only place the AI did a good job was facing off against me around fredricksburg/manassas area. In the tennessee area the AI put up a fight but it was disjointed and apparently it managed to get itself trapped in two locations, one of which held about 75% of all the confed forces in the area, and even though it appeared it could retreat into the area at island no10 it stayed and fought a number of battles spanning a 3 turn period...and was crushed. that was grants finest hour so to speak in that game.

Pretty interesting, Sheytan. What were the FoW settings for the AI?

Not Inspiring

Sheytan,
Are you suggesting that one can play the AACW game with the AI playing both sides? I've always loved that feature in games of old and have been disappointed that now games don't give us that play option. In the goold old daze when I first got a game I just liked to set the game to play AI vs AI and just watch the show to get a feel for the game.

As to quickest wins this thread is not inspiring me to get the game if the AI is so pathetic. I sure hope that the AACW AI gets a major improvement over the one in BoA.

My game was a fluke. Athena is usually better than that. My leaders activated at just the right time, that is truly rare. Get the game and PBEM. :)

oh NOZ! not AI playing both sides, but rather the AI was using the settings discussed in the thread; AI, north and south. These settings appear to "wake up" the AI. Suggest you read the thread to understand how the settings effect gameplay. As to the AI by and large, the game does a good job in this respect, but no AI can ever give you a game a human, or alien ;} opponent can give you. (I suspect some people post here are from Mars! shhh! dont tell anyone though!)

I seriously hate seeing that. It's not an accomplishment - more like a failure (on the part of the AI).

Seems the Union AI has not evacuated in time the capital. The percent chance is under 100% indeed.

Well, like I said it was a fluke, I am playing again with the same settings and things are alot different. However, I took Harpers Ferry this time and held it, soooooo, maybe that is why?
