Sound of Guns question

OK, something funny happened and I wnat some clarification.

Jackson corps got attacked by a BIG McDowell army. Beauregard responded to the sounds of guns and helped Jackson moving his AoP stack with Huger commanding one of its brigades and fighting begun.

During the turn, in all engagemnets Beauregard (highest ranking) was in command of the CSA forces. CSA did well winning all battles with considerable casualties. The battle reports had the Huger's Artillerist trait(applicable to all units in a stack) icon displayed every time. Thus my question:

Do the two stacks, Jackson's and Beauregard's, create for the time of a battle a single stack (under higher ranking general) and then the Huger traits applies to ALL thier artillery OR Huger's trait only applied to Beauregard's stack?

It should only apply to the stack the artillerist is in. Though it's normal to see all traits displayed in the combat screen.

Only to Beauregard.

But I am not sure if multi-stacks forces do not form ONE stack for time of a battle from to time under the highest ranking commander, maybe when terrain, time or leader capabilities allow that...

OK, thanks. For a moment I attributed my eunexpectedly good results in the battle to Huger's trait applying to both stacks.
