Should this happen? I had a one-star (Cleburne) division commander promoted to two-star, and his new seniority (21) put him above his corps commander (Bonham - 53). Cleburne automatically assumed command of the Corps, while retaining his division. I've seen officers be in simultaneous command of a Brigade and Division --- but never a Division and Corps. And should yr Corps commander get an automatic demotion like that? Shouldn't you have to un-assign him manually?

I've seen this before too. Good question.

Seen that several times - it does seem odd, but it also is working as it should.

Your new Two Star has higher seniority than your previous two star, so he took over the Corps command.

Having him also still in command of a division seems unusual though, but I bet you will be breaking down that division and making a new Corps, and then you can keep that leaderless division with your Corps or send it somewhere else to await a new commander.

Two week turns - a lot can happen and cannot be made to happen.

Of course, like me, I'd like some of my two stars to STAY in command of the diivsions only, and have another 2 star command the corps, but seniority, a very real political/military reality, must take precedence.

Its most frustrating when Lincoln suddenly promotes a bunch of one stars.

Other times, you can plan for this, and sometimes you need division commanders more than you need Corps commanders.

the corps should not change leader automatically, this is strange. On the other hand it seems there is no adverse side effect, so this is not a big deal I think.

Unless, like me, you happen to want to keep yr chain of command. Seniority be damned --- if a general is assigned command of a Corps (or Army, or Division, for that matter) he should remain in command until I remove him. Otherwise, every time two organizations end up in the same place at the same time, yr going to end up with musical commanders. Chaos and anarchy! Generals don't just reassign themselves without orders.

Oddly, I tried to create a new corps using a 2-star asigned to a division, and the game wouldn't allow it --- I had to remove him from command of his division first.

'Features' like 'musical command' as a result of promotion I find add to the game - I enjoy the little bit of frustration - its as if they designed in Lincoln or Davis to come in and muss things up a bit, just like the real commanders had to put up with...
