The Case of the Vanishing McClellan

Stumbled across an unusual problem the other day. I call it:

The Case of the Vanishing McClellan!

Or

How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You’re Not Anywhere at All?

I consulted with my associate, America’s favorite detective, Nick Danger, Third Eye. He was unfortunately busy with his client, George Dickell and his bottle of sour mash up at the Old Same Place. So I had to sort out the details myself.

Here is what the game screen showed me:

But this is what the replay showed me:

Notice that the location of the General is different, even though this is the same turn. Also, there are no “retreat lines” indicating movement from one region to the next.

I had to figure out which region I should attack, based on whether McClellan was in the one region, or the ‘tother.

Nick’s no help, so what do YOU recommend?

Some times, the game "misplaces" troops. I have noticed this happening with MTSG most often (where the unit didn't get back to it's starting location, but showing there, or the other way, where it got back but the graphics don't show it). I usually find that hovering over the stack in question reveals the correct location.

It's possible that Mac was retreating last round, and didn't quite make it to the next region before the turn before this one ended (but was 1 day away) or something.

I usually see this with my units (as I am looking at those).

PS - You could chalk it up to Mac's excellent spy network telling him where he was, and then one of his subordinates actually asking for directions (I can see it now "Excuse me Ma'am, but which way leads to Richmond?" "Why that'a way young man, and such nice manners for a dang Yankee")

I set Mac on prob attack from Augusta to Rockbridge. Stonewall tracked him down in Rockbridge where little Mac lost the battle. After the battle on the next trn I found Mac in retreat passive mode 1 day away from Augusta.
