Hi there, if I build a new fort in Manassas, and have troops outside in level 4 trenches, in the event of a battle, will both stackes fight?

Thanks,

charles

I believe you need to put the forces inside with the sally forth option in order for them to join a battle.

So the short answer is yes, but only if you click the box that orders them to do so in that situation.

Its not called Sally forth, but hopefully you get the idea.

It is the same button you use to tell units to move inside a structure at the end of movement. The button changes if your units are already inside a structure so you can order them to join the battle if there is one in the region outside during the turn.

So, if no sortie option, then they wouldn't partake in the battle at all?

Correct. They'll appear on the battle report, but won't actually participate.

Also, I think you can only order them to sortie if they are beseiged.

Meaning, is there no way to have two forces, one in the fort, and one entrenched outside the fort, fight together in an intial attack?

Do you mean, "both participate in battle when an enemy enters the region in an offensive posture?" The answer to that is, AFAIK, only both stacks belong to the same army (both are corps thereof, or one is a corps and the other army command). If the enemy is in assault posture, then both might fight simultaneously; I have not tested it.
