Eliminating Commanders

Is there any way to improve the probability of an enemy commander being eliminated? For instance, is it better to assault a beseiged/trapped dorce or let them starve? I am pretty sure that the presence of sharpshooters doesn't help.

Dunno if a siege will do it. I have seen Leader deaths in Battles, but that's it, AFAIK.
'Course, you could always mod Pinkerton or Belle Boyd...
awesome! AACW with a Shogun: TW feature!

I believe that the distance they have to travel to recuperate plays a part, or it might be if they are already wounded. In the late stages of the game, I have seen 5-15 CSA generals killed in a single engagement. It was during part of the 2nd tournament. I don't know which factor assisted in their untimely demise.

Ah, time has told. Leaders are rarely killed in battle, but if your goal is to eliminate the leader, there's another way. In my current game, I have trapped Jackson in Pennsylvania and Bory with Longstreet at Fort Monroe. When their stacks ran out of supplies and disappeared, so did the leaders. That should make things a LOT easier.

They may have ended up in a hospital and are chasing nurses, err, "recuperating from wounds".

This is Longstreet we're talking about, not Pickett
Anyhow, they haven't turned up
yet, and it's been a minute.

Just sayin' FoW, old chap. It takes anywhere from zero to five turns or so for General Shotup to get back into the mix.

I think generals do disappear if they starve though. It's a really cheap way for the Union to dump worthless commanders.

Yeah, I remember that being discussed as a solution to the age-old "McClellan Problem."
Anyhow, normally I'd just load the AI file and hunt them down. Unfortunately, it keeps asking me for a pwd when I try to load the file, then CTD. Still, I think they're gone.

Well, lessee, that should leave you with Grant, Sherman, about twenty others and then...lieutenants and sergeants. Keep Joshua Chamberlain, though, he was OK.

What's crazy is how much worse the starting 2- and 3-star Union generals are than the generics. I'd jump at the chance to promote Tyler or Hunter over some of those political clowns.
