More NM weirdness

In a PBEM game as Union we just had a big battle for Washington DC in June 1862, which the CSA lost although the USA had a few more losses (heavy losses on both sides). The USA started the turn with 97 NM and the CSA 116. The message log says the USA gained +4 morale from winning the battle of Washington. There was also an event that added a +1 to the USA.

Lo and behold, at the end of the turn the USA ends up losing morale. The USA, despite winning the battle and getting +4 NM for that plus the +1 for the event - a total of +5 - goes from 97 to 95. No other messages - its a mystery. Meanwhile, despite losing the battle and four NM, the CSA goes from 116 to 120 NM, with no other explanation for a NM gain.

I think I may have heard there are "hidden" NM adjustments based on losing elements in a battle. So you could be told you got +4 NM, but the game is meanwhile taking away 8-10 NM from you based on your losing whole elements, even if you won the battle and losses were heavy on both sides. That is the only possible explanation for the wackiness.

We are playing version 1.15. Anything going on here I am missing? It is 1862 so too early for war weariness. Anyone else getting things like this happen?

Hmm

Hmmm...maybe what happened is that momentarily the CSA took Washington, which they did. The Union ended up with is again, but it changed hands, since all the USA support units inside the city were captured or destroyed. Should be some message still though, no?

NM losses from battles are all accounted correctly IIRC... often there are historical options played though that the players forget. A few events also change the NM without saying so (which is not perfect, yes)

Could it be related to one of these events that require the Union to hold Manassas or to be near Richmond ? If I remember well failing to achieve the objectives will bring a loss of 10 NM.

The NM messages come out wrong after battles. see the attached thread/posts.

If you lose, the message says you lost x NM. When if fact you gain x NM. In your game, the USA had a NM boost of +1 that you missed. It went from 97 to 93 as a result of the battle (ignoring the message's +4), and then + 1 from the event leaving it with 94. Somewhere else, something happened to add a NM point . That could be from losing and recapturing Washington, or from a political option (like prisoner exchange, or total blockade), or something else you missed.

The CSA destroyed more elements, and so got +4 NM. Which they correctly reflect.

Go the Scripts folder, open the ScriptReport file. Do a search for NM to spot events changing NM levels.
