Units set on bombard

Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:31 am

Hi

In the last few games I've played I have stationed several forces along river banks or on coastal areas with artillery so they can hopefully bombard passing ships. If its a force I intend to leave there I wait until it has reached the required entrenchment level then like to put it on sentry mode so I dont have to flick through it every time. Now quite often I'll give a stack the bombard orders, but a turn or two later when i flick through them (with the E and R keys) the bombard order has been cancelled. I cant seem to spot an obvious recurring reason for this and wondered if anyone had any ideas? It happens equally whether I'm playing North or South, Athena or PBEM. It appears to happen more frequently to stacks with a leader which makes me wonder if its tied to leader activation somehow. It also seems to be after I load the game up that bombard orders are more likely to have been "forgotten" or reset to default.

Its not a gamebreaker by any means, just means I have to be a bit more vigilant each turn. I just wondered if anyone else had noticed this or perhaps it was something I was doing. My confederate opponent in the current game has played a fantastic naval game and threatened my invasions with large fleets of iron monsters, which should have taken a bit more punishment had it not been for this bombard thing and me not noticing it.

Thanks

Mark

I think that you are right with that guess. I've noticed that when I do a similar thing with sharpshooters set on ambush(with a general), it cancels the ambush setting on some turn, presumably due to the leader's inactivation that turn. It doesn't know to revert to the ambush setting and I must do it manually. I see it as the game not allowing the inactive leader to perform any offensive actions.
