The Blocade Box percentage, and Harbor blocking, and Navy Engineers

First PBEM and I am stressed to the max - which is great.

I need some help with some Naval stuff:

1) How do you calculate or get the Blockade box percentage to change? I read the manual, but that does not seem to be working. Each time I add a ship, the Block percentage should go up, right? If so, how much?

2) Most important, what does the Blocking % do? Does it; (a) reduce how much stuff is coming from overseas (which is not much in the first place), or (b) reduce how much ALL the regions produce?

3) If you block a harbor, what does that do? Does it stop the side from receiving any of the production from that region ($, conscripts, WS, GS, and Ammo) or what exactly does it block?

4) What do the Naval Engineers do?

Thank you

1) I have never seen any percentage other than a multiple of 5. So you need to add a lot of ships to have this go up to the next step. It definitely works. Put a large fleet with a power of 500 or so in the box and you'll see it make a difference. I believe directly blocking ports also adds to the percentage, though I am not sure. I must also add that even in a game where I had huge fleets in both blockade boxes and taken all major CSA ports, the percentage didn't go higher than 45%.

4) Repair ships.

Hobbes wrote a very good quick reference guide which is stickied here in the forum http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=4213&highlight=guide.

Scroll down it and the naval section will have answers to your blockade questions. Many changes have occurred in the game since he wrote it, but I don't think naval blockade has changed.

For blue water blockades:

"The % is a reduction to the output of all the CSA cities. This is in addition to the cut done to a given port by a brown blockade strategy. The two are complementary. The % are halved when you compute output, i.e. a 40% blue water blockade gives a 20% reduction in money, WSU, ammo, supply for the CSA.

The overall blockade % is weighted toward the less blockaded box to force a spread." So it is advised to have parity between the forces in each blockade box.

From this you see that a high blue water percentage plus a brown water blockade of key cities, like Richmond, begins to crimp the CSA's industry.

For brown water blockades:

"A blockaded harbour gives systematically a 50% cut" to the output of money, WSU, ammo, and general supply from the city being blockaded.

This is my understanding of how it works.

Look at the posts in this thread, specifically 25&26

As can be seen, certain CSA ports add to blockade %. So if you blockade them, they will increase your %.

Thank you very very very much.

So the blue water % is halved? And the boxes must be balanced? And some cities, like Norfolk, jack the Blue Water % up.

Wow, that is good stuff.
