Delayed Battle?

What is the reasoning behind the delayed battle? And, what does the community generally accept as the normal setting?

Thank you,

The reason is to allow time for your various stacks to reach the same point, for purposes of fighting alongside one another. The delay is based on: a) the setting you select, and b) the strategic rating of the officers involved.

I use medium delay in my AI games, and push for it in my PBEM games. It is not a clear cut time delay, meaning it is not always a three day delay on that setting. It is random and is also affected by your stance. Assault seems to always fire as soon as you hit the region in question. Offensive stacks will still engage more often than defensive. And passive still will keep you out of the fight/make you retreat if they engage you. (This last one is only relevant as I often move stacks in passive to help maintain their cohesion. Not when heading for a fight, mind you, but if I happened to be moving troops to fill out a division to a location where I expect a fight and didn't have the cp room to stack them, I'd passive march them to the region and hope they keep their heads down until I can pair them. )

Am wondering if there is a thread/sticky/wiki someone can direct those of us with questions about the AI/Game/System settings? Those questions come up with some regularity throughout the forum and are answered here and there. Is there one place where they are all addressed?

For instance, I had no idea how the "delay" option worked, nor had I even thought about it. Learning something new every day.

I do know the wiki, and it is a thing of beauty.

But even though I've gone through it many times, I haven't found definitive answers to some of the questions about the game settings. The Manual/Main Menu/Options section in the wiki has some helpful, but rather general information about the game settings. But I'm looking for a little more "under the hood" information and ideally a one-stop shop for that information.

Please don't take this as a critique of your good work, rather a desire to know more about the game.

One question I have about the "options/system" reference in the Manual/Maine Menu/options portion of the wiki, which says, "The Armory sub-section of the AGEOD forum can help you decide which settings are best for you."

Where is the Armory sub-section located?
